oh, I don’t know, maybe something that doesn’t undercut our farmers and cause a drop in animal welfare standards?

Something like our nearest neighbours trade under, perhaps?
You surely don't think that the deal that has only just been announced is set in stone? Hell, even our relationship with the EU is still being modified.

It will definitely grow, as will the other trade deals. The most important part to all of them so far has been opening those doors.

There’s a couple of sayings I can think of, like you can’t put the genie back into the bottle, once you give away your high ground it’s hard to get it back.

Oh yes, about giving away that high ground and undermining UK farming?

NZ is worth a whole 0.2% of the UK’s trade…

Apparently nothing the Johnson govt agrees to is set in stone.

Excellent, the kiwi lamb is better than the British lamb and now it will be cheaper as well. That and the Irish mince
Do you really think shops will pass down the savings on tariffs to the consumer?

Lol

The impact of Brexit on the UK economy will be worse in the long run compared to the coronavirus pandemic, the chairman of the Office for Budget Responsibility has said.
Richard Hughes said leaving the EU would reduce the UK's potential GDP by about 4% in the long term.
He said forecasts showed the pandemic would reduce GDP "by a further 2%".
"In the long term it is the case that Brexit has a bigger impact than the pandemic", he told the BBC.

while I think Brexit is overall a stupid idea, the notion that Eastern European workers are going to be replaced with Indian or African migrants is even more stupid.

Firstly, there isn't going to be unrestricted immigration allowed from India or Africa and secondly, the low end of the job market is legislated and the minimum wage would prevent employers from offering this "substantially lower pay".

Reminds me of Thatcher.. you know, every right wingers hero.

Watch watching the above video from AJ.. I don’t think a lot of Brexit people remember what the UK was like in the 70s & 80s tbh.

You'd be surprised. There were a lot of people who voted for the UK to remain in the union in 1975 but who also then voted for it to leave in 2016. They're the same ones who the 20-year olds were saying shouldn't be allowed to vote.

The union they joined is not the union they left behind.

What do you guys think UK government will do in the next two months? I have a feeling they will indeed trigger article 16 which would immediately force the EU to take action, or even totally rip up the deal.

I am hoping its all just a political pissing match, but I am starting to think the decision to trigger article 16 has already been made and will happen sooner than later. They are merely waiting for the right time.

Britain should exit hard and fast even if it's a crappy deal, as the EUrocraps now threaten. After quick new trade deals with USA, Canada, Australia, half the Commonwealth, and Japan they'll be in a better position than now. Call the EUrobluff - within two years of Brexit the European bluster will evaporate and they'll beg the UK to join the free trade zone.
EU will beg UK ? In which world do you live in Comrade? Nigel farage's basement ?

Hehe.
My two-year horizon in that comment from four years ago didn't reckon with the rise of covid fascism and the ascent to power of the wokerati in America, Britain, Australia, and elsewhere. Liberation has been delayed, sadly. How long it'll take to restore freedom in those countries is hard to say at this stage.

From the Papua New Guinea Daily Courier.

Just how far have Britain fallen?

That's a bit hysterical to be fair, it's a hugely exaggerated image of how the country is.
My favourite part about Brexit has always been the comments, insights and opinions offered by people who don't even live here.
