Would this go down as a Brexit benefit?

Not supplying steel to the "communist" Biden's country? Alt right wingers can rejoice!

The UK steel industry is braced for an immediate slump in trade from New Year’s Day when European Union rivals will gain a 25% price advantage selling to the giant US market.

The EU and the US reached a Halloween agreement to remove tariffs on a quota of steel and aluminium imported from the bloc into the US from 1 January, but tariffs will remain on all UK steel and aluminium exports after government talks failed to secure a matching breakthrough.

Good news. More steel remains in UK. More steel kettles can be made. More Sovereign-tea.

Phase 2: custom clearance and tariffs on all EU imports starts today.
"less bureaucracy and red tape" not.

Love some of the British comments on that tweet. Seems like not much has changed and people are still praying that Brexit will lead the UK to complete ruin - and that’s coming from people who live here.

How ****ing pathetic can you possibly be that you’d wish that on millions of other people just because you didn’t get the result you wanted, just so you can sit in a pub one day with your mates and say “See? I told you so”?

I think it might have something to do with the complete shìtshow that Brexit and BoJo are, and just how unpopular they have become as well.

Even the more racist Brexiteers are pissed off that leaving the EU means it's now quite likely non-EU immigration controls are going to have to be relaxed, cheaper less strict visas for Indian citizens, for example.

Whether people wish for a failure or not, it's a good bet it will be one. This is the year that will show how the future will go, imo. I wonder if the full set of rules that came into force yesterday are being enforced yet?

Yeah the odds of it not going according to plan are getting higher it seems (especially because we’re pushing back hard with the whole Channel dinghy issue), but it’s still no reason to WANT it to go badly.

Re: new rules I’ve heard announcements for the past few months on the radio that all businesses need to “get ready” for 1 January, so can only assume they’re now live. That included having the updated documentation ready for Dover, etc.

A bit more good news

Boris Johnson is facing one of the worst Tory local election results in London in over 50 years, according to one of the party’s top polling experts, heaping further pressure on the Prime Minister over his leadership.

Mr Johnson’s authority has been severely damaged in recent months following allegations of sleaze at Westminster, lockdown-busting parties in Downing Street and a major rebellion by his own MPs over Covid restrictions.

The series of setbacks has hit the Tories in the polls, with a survey for Opinium last week showing Labour now has a seven-point lead over the Conservatives.

The poll also showed that Mr Johnson has become a “significant drag on Tory fortunes”, sparking further speculation that MPs could be preparing to oust him as leader.

One of the triggers for a leadership challenge could be this May’s local elections in London which, according to the Tory peer and political analyst Lord Hayward, could see the Conservatives surrender four of its seven councils in the capital.

“He [Boris] should be very concerned,” said Lord Hayward, who has a reputation for giving unvarnished, independent advice to Tory campaign chiefs and prime ministers.

“With most opinion polls as they stand, Conservatives could control fewer London boroughs than they have at any point in the 50 years of the existence of these boroughs.

The US dropped their 25% tariff on steel for the EU.

The tariff is still in place for the UK ...

Awkward nuisance for the claim that the UK would be at the front of the queue when it comes to trade with the USA.

Biden’s buddy Obama may have some influence still. He said that the UK would go to the back of the queue if Leave won.

From what I remember, I think it's because of the Northern Ireland shitshow, the USA has said no deals if they think the NI peace process could be damaged by brexit actions.

As I mentioned on Sunday, Brexiter getting upset about post Brexit immigration

Almost all callers on JOB shows (that I heard) always complained about brown people and at times, certain eastern european people. I don't think anyone had issue with people they resemble more - like Germans etc.. I think main sentiment behind brexit supporters was based on dislike towards certain people..
