BRONX CASE POSTPONED AGAIN
The Bruno Bronn murder trial in the Western Cape High Court was on Tuesday postponed to next week due to the illness of one of the defence lawyers.
Three men are accused of strangling Bruno Bronn, owner of the gay nightclub, The Bronx, in the Cape Town CBD.
Prosecutor Carine Teunissen alleges that Bronn was strangled in his Sea Point home, on Monday night, February 6, 2012.
The alleged killers, Willem Frederick John Coetzer, Fareez Allie and Achmat Toffa, have pleaded not guilty before Judge President John Hlophe and assessor Jaco van Reenen, to charges of premeditated murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
The trial that was scheduled to resume on Monday, was postponed to Tuesday because Allie's lawyer Arno Nell, was not available.
Henry van Niekerk, for Toffa, was to have resumed his cross-examination of Coetzer on Tuesday, but he had taken ill and the case was postponed.

COETZER CONVICTED OF BRONX BOSS MURDER
Willem Frederick John Coetzer was convicted in the Western Cape High Court on Friday of the murder of gay night club owner Bruno Bronn.
"You are guilty on both counts -- guilty of murder and secondly you are found guilty... of robbery with aggravating circumstances," Judge John Hlope told Coetzer.
Bronn was strangled at his Sea Point home on the night of Monday, February 6, 2012.
Coetzer, who was a bouncer at Bronn's gay night club, The Bronx, claimed his co-accused Fareez Allie orchestrated the murder.
However, the court rejected his version of events and acquitted Allie.
"You are acquitted on both counts," Hlope told a visibly relieved Allie. "You are a free man."
A second co-accused, Achmat Toffa, was also acquitted on the charges of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances but was convicted on a count of theft. Coetzer had given him Bronn's cellphone to sell.
The evidence before the court and the testimony of witnesses indicated that Coetzer acted alone.
Coetzer's DNA was found under Bronn's fingernails and it was his belt which was used to strangle Bronn.
Allie's cellphone records showed he was not at Bronn's house during the murder.

Coetzer was sentenced to 15 years in prison for robbery with aggravating circumstances. This term would run concurrently with the murder sentence.

BRONX KILLER SENTENCED TO LIFE

Coetzer had offered very little in the form of mitigating factors which would compel the court to deviate from imposing the minimum prescribed sentences.
"Murder is very serious. We can only imagine the pain the deceased endured," Hlophe said.
"He [Bronn] even screamed for his life."
Despite Bronn pleading for his life on February 6, 2012, Coetzer had proceeded to murder him "in the privacy of his home" -- another aggravating factor contributing to the life sentence.
"Clearly you are a violent person, given you already have a previous conviction for assault," Hlophe told Coetzer.
"You have not shown any remorse at all."
The fact that Coetzer had attempted to "frame other people", for the murder also counted against him, Hlophe said.
Coetzer's two co-accused, Fareez Allie and Achmat Toffa, were acquitted on the murder and robbery charges on Friday.
