The Business Licensing Bill

Why does the government want to enact this bill which has so many negative consequences and almost nothing positive that I can see?

Can they not see the bigger picture? This is just something else to smother entrepreneurship and keep the country from developing.

Well the local municipalities are either bankrupt or on the verges of being so. Government is unable to fund them and when they do most are lost due to incompetence and or corruption. So this is an easy way to add an additional income stream to the empty coffers of the local municipalities.

Its surprising for how many things we are already paying. Things one would think will be covered by our taxes. A good example is the E-Tolls, did we not already pay for those roads?

Guess that is what the government meant with 'increasing the tax base' or did they mean increasing their income stream by any means....

What is another odd hundred Rand a year for a business in Africa's strongest economy.....

In the murky past a business required a municipal trading licence with much the same powers as the new bill.

Inspectors were empowered to enter a business's premises to check for the existence of the licence and to ensure that the conditions of the licence (employee wage register / working conditions / etc.) were being met.

What's the difference - other than the inevitable corruption that will follow ?
