The BYD (EV) Thread

BYD's YangWang U7 revealed: a 1,000+ hp luxury sedan

BYD's most premium brand, YangWang, has unexpectedly revealed some images of its next EV, the U7. This follows the U8 SUV and the U9 supercar, both initially announced about a year ago. Unlike those, however, the U7 is a sedan - the brand's first, in fact.

Chinese sources speculate that the brand revealed official images of the U7 since the model is soon to be certified for sale in China by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), a process through which images of each certified car become public anyway - but those are much more utilitarian in nature.

BYD surpasses Volkswagen to become China's top-selling car maker in 2023

BYD, the Chinese automotive giant, has dethroned Volkswagen Group to emerge as China's reigning car brand in 2023. This remarkable shift in the automotive landscape is a result of BYD's successful bet on electric vehicles and the substantial dividends it is reaping from the quickly changing market landscape.

BYD, which stands for "Build Your Dreams," shipped 2.4 million vehicles in China last year. This phenomenal feat catapulted the company's market share to 11%, marking an impressive increase of 3.2 percentage points.

The rise of BYD signifies more than just a change in rankings; it embodies the profound lead that Chinese automakers have established in crafting affordable and cutting-edge EVs, which are rapidly gaining popularity all over the world. Now, even venerable automakers such as Stellantis and VW are turning to Chinese car companies for help with their EV development.

BYD shares images of upcoming Yuan Up compact SUV

BYD teased the upcoming Yuan Up on its official Weibo, sharing six images of the car.

The Yuan Up is based on BYD's e-Platform 3.0 and is a compact SUV with sporty and youthful styling.

BYD says the Yuan Up is an A0 segment EV, which should mean a compact car with a sub-2.7 meter wheelbase.

According to a leaked regulatory filing, the Yuan Up measures 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. There are three weight options - 1,430 kg, 1,520 kg, and 1,540 kg.

Rumor has it, the Yuan Up will have a single motor with two power options - 70 kW (94 hp) and 130 kW (174 hp) - and a maximum speed of 160 km/h. Expect a maximum range of 401 km.
