BYD to debut eight new models at Goodwood 2026

The historic Goodwood Festival of Speed usually celebrates classic gasoline engines, but Chinese automaker BYD is changing the narrative for 2026. The company is building its largest exhibition stand in the history of the event to showcase its expanding lineup of electric cars and plug-in hybrids. Instead of just showing off older models, BYD Group is bringing eight vehicle debuts to the United Kingdom, spanning three distinct brands.

A highlight of the festival is the official United Kingdom launch of Denza, BYD's premium sub-brand. Denza is using the event to reveal two brand-new electric cars to the world for the first time: the Z Coupe and the Z Racing. Both models evolve the company's new design language, which first appeared on the Z Spider model at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year. The sleek Z9GT wagon will be the very first Denza model to go on sale for British buyers.

The Denza Z Coupe has a powerful three-motor electric setup that it inherits from the Spider model, allowing the car to reach a spectacular top speed of 349 km/h. Even though it drives like a track missile, designers gave it a practical two-plus-two seating layout and a large trunk, apparently believing owners will use it for high-speed grocery shopping. For drivers who want an even more aggressive look, the Z Racing version adds a dramatic aerodynamic package made entirely of carbon fiber.

Denza is also expanding into large luxury vehicles with the D9 DM-i and the BAO 5 SUV. The D9 DM-i is a massive seven-seat passenger van designed to feel like a first-class airport lounge. All seven seats feature heating and ventilation, while the middle-row seats can recline up to 152 degrees and offer built-in massage functions. The D9 uses a dual-motor hybrid system producing 353 horsepower, offering 209 km of pure electric range on the WLTP cycle, and still has 430 l of cargo space even when full of passengers. The rugged BAO 5 SUV makes its first European appearance, combining three electric motors with a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine for heavy-duty off-roading.
