BYD launches the second-gen Seal 07 EV with more range and a lower price
BYD only launched the Seal 07 EV back in March, but the company is already replacing it. Today, the second-generation Seal 07 went official in China, and the all-electric version is cheaper, quicker, and has a longer range than the car it succeeds.
The Seal 07 comes in three trims, priced at CNY 149,900 (about €19,000), CNY 159,900 (€20,300), and CNY 172,900 (€21,900), respectively. The starting price is CNY 20,000 (€2,600) lower than its predecessor's, and BYD is taking a further CNY 4,000 (€512) off each trim for buyers who trade in a car.
All three trims share the same powertrain with a single rear-mounted motor developing 245 kW (329 hp) and 365 Nm of torque, fed by a 76.7 kWh second-gen Blade Battery that supports flash charging. That gives it 775 km of CLTC range, 70 km more than before, a 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.5 seconds (one second quicker), and a 240 km/h top speed. Interestingly, the 300 kW long-range version that showed up in regulatory filings is nowhere to be found, at least for now.
The new car is also bigger, as those filings revealed. It's 5,080 mm long, 1,960 mm wide, and 1,495 mm tall, with a 2,960 mm wheelbase. That makes it 85 mm longer and 50 mm wider than its predecessor, and its wheelbase has grown by 60 mm. Storage consists of a 618 l trunk and a 160 l frunk, and a heat pump is standard.
The model it replaces only went on sale in March.
