Three trucks hit just hours apart in CIT heists


Three trucks were hit in two attempted cash-in-transit heists (CIT) on Tuesday evening.

Fidelity CEO Wahl Bartmann confirmed one of their trucks was bombed at about 7.30pm on the N2 close to Mthatha in the Eastern Cape.

Two vehicles brought the armed truck to a stop before an unknown number of suspects got out and started firing.

“The truck was shot to bits‚” Bartmann said. “At this stage it looks like they could not blow open the truck. It looks like they twice tried to bomb the vehicle.”

No money was stolen. The police were still on the scene when contacted by TimesLIVE on Tuesday.

There were 2 or 3 other heists in the past 3 days. I'll see if I can find articles...
 
It would be interesting to know what data is available from all these heists the last 12 months.
One should be able to build a profile by now.

They have the latest profiles based on the past 12 months. They also have profiles from the past two decades. Dozens of recorded interviews with convicts. Books published specifically on the subject of CIT robberies. 'Special' meetings of the National Assembly Portfolio Committee have taken place. They also have the input of university professors. And of course the input of the CEO's of the largest CIT companies.

It all amounts to nothing because in every instance you have the involvement of SAPS members, metro police, magistrates, armory officials, politicians, prosecutors, members of the Hawks and so forth.

The system in SA is beyond rotten. Those who are paid to protect society are society's greatest danger. Even independent global organisations like Amnesty International recognised this two decades ago, and it has only gotten worse.

Elections cost money.

JOHANNESBURG - Two security guards were reported shot and one suspect killed on Thursday morning during a cash-in-transit heist near Atlas Road and North Rand Road, Boksburg.

It is believed that the suspects were unsuccessful in robbing the vehicle.

All the support services are arriving on scene, which is outside the Renault dealership on Atlas Road. Atlas Rd route to N12 likely to be blocked off again to clear the scene #cashintransit #CITRobbery

Motorists are urged to take care and to use alternative routes in order to avoid roads impacted by the heist, including some access roads linking to the N12 in Boksburg.

Early unconfirmed reports indicated that one of the guards may also have been fatally injured in the exchange of gunfire.

Residents and motorists have reported hearing explosions and gunfire just after 6 am on Thursday morning.

It’s unclear whether anyone was injured but this man says he witnessed a shooting.

“I was right in the middle of that, then there was a private security company with a Toyota Hilux, white man shooting right behind where we were... shooting towards the cash-in-transit van. We couldn’t see the van because there was smoke all over.”

Another witness says he lives close by.

“From about 5:55 am until probably 6:05 am or longer, there has been automatic fire explosions coming from about 4 km from my house.”

I've received the voice note from one of the G4 guys. Bloody scary.

I made an attempt at the transcript. It's a very panicked voice. My mom's friend's brother works for G4 in a unit that investigates the CITs so she gets these updates and notifications via her friend.

Why not post in the CIT thread?

Anyway, it looks like the CIT companies are cleaning house a bit - the failure rate is going up probably because criminals aren't able to source quality intel like they used to.
 
BREAKING: Suspect shot dead after attempted cash-in-transit heist in Boksburg

Gauteng police have confirmed that one suspect was shot dead and a security guard wounded following an attempted cash-in-transit heist in Boksburg.

The incident occurred on Atlas Road, near the N12 on Thursday morning, Brigadier Vish Naidoo told News24.

Thugs seem to target G4S more than others. I get really twitchy driving close to them. I even look for escape route...

SAPS crime programme paying off, cash-in-transit robberies 'reduced significantly'

Police officials say the implementation of the South African Police Service's nationwide stabilisation programme to reduce crime is paying off.

In a statement issued on Friday, officials said that the occurrence of cash-in-transit robberies had more than halved in June compared to May this year, and dozens of alleged robbers had already been arrested.

"These robberies have been reduced significantly by 61% in the month of June 2018 compared to the month of May 2018," Police Minister Bheki Cele and National Police Commissioner General Khehla John Sitole said in a joint statement.

More than 40 suspects had been arrested since June 4, 2018.

"Four of these suspects rank among the top 20 of identified suspects wanted for similar crimes," the statement reads.

2 guards shot dead in cash-in-transit heist

Two SBV security guards were shot dead on Friday during a cash-in-transit robbery in Tsolo, Eastern Cape.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said the guards were loading money at an ATM machine near a supermarket when a group of armed men pounced on them.

Naidoo said the guards had been fatally wounded and the suspects had fled with an undisclosed amount of money in a hijacked van.

No arrests have been made and police are continuing with investigations.

R1m reward for info on Eastern Cape cash-in-transit heist

SBV is offering a R1 million reward for information on a cash-in-transit heist that left two guards dead in Tsolo, Eastern Cape, on Friday.

It said in a statement that it took exception to loss of life and was offering the reward for information that would lead to the successful arrest and conviction of those involved.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo previously told News24 that the guards were loading money at an ATM machine near a supermarket when a group of armed men pounced on them.

Naidoo said the suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money in a hijacked van.
SBV said two of its guards were killed. The driver of the van was unharmed.Counselling was being offered to those affected.
