The Chanelle Henning Murder Trial

Witness will probably tell them his version and they will check cellphone and other evidence to see if it matches up. Might be strong enough case for a conviction or not.

Of course the accused will be given the chance to prove it all lies or circumstantial evidence.

Going to get interesting soon.

My guess is that Nico will try to flee before he gets arrested.

Thanks!

Really, did Nico Henning really not think these thugs would start singing eventually?? That's what I find most astounding! R1m is going to get them nowhere while they are sitting for life!

When was the last time he was sighted? My guess would be that by now he is no longer in the country.

He thought they would not be caught. The gunmen were caught/confessed, they worked back to Monye and Gouws, couldn't link Andre Gouws to Nico Henning in regards of the crime itself, no evidence sms's for example I guess, they had been careful.

Henning sentencing in February

Another twist in the trial of Chanell Henning's killers on Thursday delayed sentencing to February in the High Court in Pretoria.

Matthew Klein, for former Nigerian Olympic athlete Ambrose Monye, convicted of murdering the Pretoria mother, indicated Monye wanted to make a confession.

"His confession will come but I can't put him in the dock now," Klein said, asking for a postponement.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel said the postponement would be an inconvenience, but hearing Monye's versions was in the interests of justice. Judge Johan Kruger postponed the matter to February 3.

Earlier, Monye's co-accused Andre Gouws broke down as he alleged Henning's husband Nico offered him R1 million to arrange the hit on his wife.

"Nico Henning, her husband, approached me to commission me to have her killed, and I took steps to fulfil his wishes," Gouws tearfully read from his affidavit, in Afrikaans.

"Her death is directly due to the request or commission of Nico Henning."

Gouws told the court how his best friend and friend of 24 years allegedly wanted his wife killed so he could get custody of their child.

He said he would testify against his friend and decided to tell the truth because it was the right thing to do.

The court was hearing sentencing proceedings after finding Gouws and Monye guilty of the contract murder of Henning. Henning, 26, was shot dead in Faerie Glen in November 2011, shortly after dropping off her child at a creche.

Gouws and Monye pleaded not guilty to five charges relating to a conspiracy to commit the murder.

The State argued that Monye and Gouws conspired with former policeman Gerhardus "Doepie" du Plessis and Willem "Pike" Pieterse. Du Plessis and Pieterse are serving 18-year prison terms after confessing to their roles in the murder.

On Thursday, 49-year-old Gouws told the court he paid Monye R50,000 to get Pieterse and Du Plessis to shoot Henning because he did not want to kill her himself.

The court heard that Nico Henning allegedly gave Gouws the idea to use a motorbike to shoot his wife and that he pointed out the creche, school, and her house to Gouws.

Earlier, the court heard that Gouws decided to do what was right after looking at his daily Bible study book "What would Jesus do?" In his testimony during the trial, Gouws admitted that Chanelle's husband asked him to watch her to see if she used drugs.

The couple was divorcing and fighting over custody of their child.

On Thursday, Gouws alleged Henning asked him plant drugs on his wife and get her arrested.

Tears in court at Henning 'murder plot'

Pretoria mother Chanelle Henning's husband Nico allegedly asked his best friend to order the hit on her for R1 million, the High Court in Pretoria heard on Thursday.

"Nico Henning, her husband, approached me to commission me to have her killed, and I took steps to fulfil his wishes," Andre Gouws tearfully read from his affidavit, in Afrikaans.

"Her death is a direct result of the request or commission by Nico Henning."

An emotional Gouws told the court his best friend and friend of 24 years had offered him R1 million to carry out the hit so he could get custody of their child. This was to be paid in monthly instalments of R50,000.

He said he would testify against Henning and he had decided to tell the truth because "it was the right thing to do".

The court was hearing evidence in sentencing proceedings after finding Gouws and former Nigerian Olympic athlete Ambrose Monye guilty of the contract murder of Henning.

Chanelle Henning, 26, was shot dead in Faerie Glen in November 2011, shortly after dropping off her child at a creche.

Gouws and Monye had pleaded not guilty to five charges relating to an alleged conspiracy to commit the murder.

The State argued that Monye and Gouws conspired with former policeman Gerhardus "Doepie" du Plessis and Willem "Pike" Pieterse (alias Tattoo).

The court heard that Nico Henning gave Gouws the idea to use a motorbike to shoot his wife, and that he pointed out the creche, school, and house to Gouws.

Wearing black tracksuit pants and a turquoise T-shirt, Gouws said Henning had previously asked him to kill his brother after they had a disagreement.

He said Henning "tested" him on one occasion. When he arrived at his place, he told him to get in the car, and drove out of Pretoria on the highway.

Henning told Gouws he had shot his brother and the body was in the back of the car.

When Gouws asked where the gun was and what to do with the body, Henning told him he "passed the test".

He said his brother had not been shot, but continued to show him where he would bury the body in such a situation.

Earlier, the court heard that Gouws, 49, decided to do what was right after looking at his daily Bible study book "What would Jesus do?"

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel asked Gouws what he intended by coming clean now, ahead of sentencing.

"Will this benefit you?" Nel asked.

Gouws responded: "Not really. I have to stand up before the whole world and say I told half truths.

"The Bible says the truth will set you free, but in this case it will not set me free from jail."

Nel questioned him about his motive and asked if he thought that by implicating Henning he would get a lesser sentence.

Gouws said he did not think it would help him. He said that by lying during the trial he committed perjury and that coming clean was the right thing to do.

The court heard that Gouws sent Henning an SMS saying "Proud of you my friend" after he heard that Henning had passed a lie detector test to see if he was involved in the murder.

In his testimony during the trial, Gouws admitted that Chanelle's husband had asked him to watch her to see if she used drugs.

The couple was divorcing and fighting over custody of their child.

However, on Thursday, Gouws said Henning asked him to plant drugs on his wife and get her arrested to discredit her.

The case continues.

Henning in court over wife's murder

The husband of slain Pretoria mother Channel Henning appeared in the city's Regional Court on Friday on a charge of killing her, police said.

The case against Nico Henning was postponed to December 10 for a formal bail application, Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini said.

He handed himself to police in Villieria, Pretoria, on Friday morning, accompanied by his lawyer, Dlamini said.

On Thursday, the High Court in Pretoria heard that Nico Henning allegedly manipulated his best friend and commissioned him to arrange the murder.

Daan Mostert, for convicted murderer Andre Gouws, 49, asked Gouws if he thought Henning had manipulated him when he allegedly ordered the hit on his wife.

"Without a doubt," Gouws responded.

An emotional Gouws told the court his best friend and friend of 24 years had offered him R1 million to carry out the hit so he could get custody of their child. This was to be paid in monthly instalments of R50,000.

The State argued that Monye and Gouws conspired with former policeman Gerhardus "Doepie" du Plessis and Willem "Pike" Pieterse. Du Plessis and Pieterse are serving 18-year prison terms after confessing to their roles in the murder.

The two men are in the process of being sentenced.

He said he would testify against his friend and decided to tell the truth because it was the right thing to do.

So NOW he thinks it is the right thing to do. Why did he not have this attack of morality when he was asked to commit the crime??

Thanks. I wonder why its all happening at Villeria police station, Garsfontein is the station that is responsible for the area in which the murder happened.

Not sure. It could be because it's closest to the NGHC?

Henning's bail application postponed

A bail application by Nico Henning, accused of killing his estranged wife Chanelle Henning, was postponed by the Pretoria Regional Court on Tuesday.

Chief magistrate Desmond Nair ruled that Henning, who is in custody, would return to court on Friday.

Henning's lawyers had asked for a postponement to file further documents to the court. Prosecutor Gerrie Nel did not oppose the request.

On Thursday, the High Court in Pretoria heard that Henning manipulated his best friend and commissioned him to arrange the murder.

Daan Mostert, for convicted murderer Andre Gouws, 49, asked Gouws if he thought Henning had manipulated him when he allegedly ordered the hit on his wife.

"Without a doubt," Gouws responded during sentencing procedures.

Gouws and Monye are yet to be sentenced.

Henning appeared in court on Friday after handing himself over to police.

Don't think so Gouws... the green greed monster (the million rand) convinced you...

Shows to me that the State considers him a flight risk - asking R5m in bail is an arm and a leg.
Pretoria - Murder accused Nico Henning is willing to pay R5m to get bail, the Pretoria Regional Court heard on Friday.

In an affidavit Henning said: "I am presently in a position to secure R100 000," he said.

"I am also prepared to offer a guarantee in terms of section 60 (13)(b) of Act 51 of 1977 in the amount of R4.9m."

Henning was arrested for the murder of and conspiracy to murder his wife Chanelle Henning.

He has been in custody since last Friday, when he handed himself over to police.
