The changes coming to DStv from 1 September

I have to wonder why I will bother to pay nearly R1000 a month for over 15 Sports Channels I don't watch - except Tour de France & the golf Majors. The repeats are now at a ridiculous level, even 3rd & fourth time, ITV & BBC First have gone or going, and many nights I just watch CNN. So I want to choose my bundle - news & series & some doccies. BAH!

What's bothering me the most is when they now show movies from last century on the premium movie channels! But the mass of XMas movies are also getting worse.
Can't see how this over-cheap attitude will change with the channels shuffle.

DSTV broadcasting in SD-WS is not making their product attractive, especially if they want to compete with Netflix/Amazon/Youtube 4k.

Rearranging the channel line up, will not fix the poor quality product offering,
aka "Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic"

You realise every single service in the world broadcasts in SD? It's either that or forgo the old content completely. Or do you want it to magically be refilmed in HD? Hell even your precious Netflix can't broadcast everything in native HD.

Of course I realise that TV content over 15 years old is mostly only available in SD and that film content from the last ~50 years, if remastered is available in 4k (eg 2001: A Space Odyssey from 1968, Star Wars 1977, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan 1982 are available in 4k).

Most of the ~79 SD-WS channels are new content and new content should be HD. Some are even available in HD elsewhere (eg SIC International, Sky News, BBC, Al Jazeera, Bloomberg, etc).

If you told me that Intelsat 36 did not have the capacity to handle ~154 FHD/HD channels then I might believe you.

Availability of HD content and bean-counter excuses is not a reason for @Swa and @Geoff.D justifying & defending DSTV for broadcasting ~51% channels in SD-WS yet charging a premium.
