The Citizen - Telkom Rip-Off

Two thumbs up to the Citizen - a publication obviously not afraid of losing their ad spend from Telkom - or not winning that oh-so-important Telkom Journalist of the Year Award...... LOL! I wouldnt even use that as a door stop.

Nice going Citizen, good to see some papers are still interested in consumer awareness.

Findings of the Genesis survey were mentioned on 5FM's news programme this evening too.

Well done SABC News! And thanks to kilps for the SABC link.

Quote: "Xolisa Vapi, a spokesperson for Telkom says they are aware that they charge high tariffs. "We are very conscious of the fact that our data tariffs are much higher when compared to other countries internationally." "

Uh, did I read that right????

Telkom says they're expensive? What next, Mugabe sends an olive branch to Tony Blair?

I really think that this latest news coverage is a critical turning point in SA telecoms. Call me idealistic, I still believe it. Media coverage like this has a significant effect in that it increases pressure on govt quite a bit.

Well done to SABC! Sure took me by surprise (though they did still lead the news this evenng with a story about a flower being named after Mbeki....)

Great job Citizen in representing the true interests of SA. GOV we all want the same thing. A great SA with a great economy + market leading services at the right costs + great human rights record + minimal or no corruption + ...

Today the citizen
Tomorrow the Sunday Times!
afaik there should be an article this sunday ya, they called this morning :)

Even 5fm mentioned the genesis report and were hammering Telkom on their expensive prices, yesterday on their 6o'clock news!

To all intents and purposes, we are now in the hands of our current government regarding Telkoms pricing.

Either they take the initiative with immediate action to cut costs significantly, or they prove they are more interested in personal financial gain than the economic growth of our country.

It's really as simple as that.

The recommendations from ICASA will be presented before Government.

You are correct bb_matt. Its up to them now to do the right thing.

Factual.
I am just not sure of the procedure.
RPM should be able to shed some light on the matter.
