TELKOM RIP-OFF

SA phone chages highest in world, study confirms (Belinda Anderson/Moneyweb)

LOCAL telephone calls in south Africa are the most expensive out of 15 countries surveyed, a study has found.
The South African Foundation commissioned the independent report because a McKinsey study recently found call centre business could generate up to 150 000 jobs in the country.
Local calls in SA were found to be about 200% dearer than the average and international bandwidth cost nearly 400% more than the average.

The article goes onto familiar territory for MyADSL readers, indicating a study out of SA's peers like Brazil, India etc. along with "best practice" countries such as Canada, Hong Kong etc. and indicates Telkom are by far the most expensive virtually across their entire spectrum of services.

It touches on ADSL and the recent Icasa hearings.

Bottom line - the news about Telkoms Rip-Off services is reaching a larger section of people finally, which can only be good.

Front Page nogal.
I am glad that the attention that Telkom deserves is hitting the average man on the street.
I am of the opinion that a lot of people that have owned a phone in South Africa has much to say about their service and bills they receive.

If a person like my father, who is in no way interested in Computers or Internet can walk into the Post Office and s..t the Manager out because Telkom levied an extra R15 in interest on his account as it slipped his mind to pay it. He basically told them that if Telkom had competition in the market they would never have dared.
Also this week, I had to contact Telkom on his behalf because Telkom had not fixed his phone line which had been out of order for almost a week and he has a medical condition and needs a phone, despite him having reported the fault several times.
What comes round goes round and in the case of Telkom they have no loyalty as far as business goes. When the time comes, I will drop them like yesterdays news.

Besides that, my father can only afford to phone me after hours, because of the high costs of Telkom.
Nothing other than a complete and utter disgrace that the Government allows this trend to continue.

Success!! Front page! Let the evil that is telkom be known to the public..

Now we need to aim for the Sunday Times and Tribune.

Line cut?

/me wonders how long it'll be till Telkom disconnect the Citizen's phone lines "accidently" :D . I'm betting on two days max ...

SABC News usually goes something like this...

"Our esteemed and widely admired President Mbeki... sneezed today/ate a carrot/visted his mother/bought a new tie....".

Well done to The Citizen for publishing the article.

tommorrows headlines.........

MYADSL Forum members accidently cut-off. It was a lightning confirms TELKOM!

Blame it on the weather -

Don't knock the weather. If it didn't change once in a while, nine out of ten people couldn't start a conversation.

Just a thought - If it wasn't for Telkom and their 'lightning' then we would't be having so much fun shouting at them! :p - not thats its fun to be have your economy slowed down, povety increase and being ripped off by just one compnay

LOL

They wouldn't dare! Last thing Telkom needs is MyADSL members meeting in public somewhere close to HQ... If they keep on doing what they are doing it might have to be done though...

;)

I am absolutely loving the amount of negative publicity Telkom are receiving in such a short time. It's like a high-pressure cooker waiting for years to just explode. myADSL was just the crack in the seal it needed to go boom. :D

Viva le revolution...hopefully.

This is excellent news...

Questions is: How long can Telkom Ignore EVERYONE and claim they are correct?
