The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading

Just in case, try clearing the cache in Firefox, and delete any cookies associated with ancestry.co.uk and the other domains that show up in NoScript - there could be a lingering problem associated with the internet APN that is cached in Firefox and reappears when it shouldn't using the internetvpn APN.

Thanks - nice thought, but still no go! Well I'm packing up for the day- thanks again for the help!

If we need to trace this, it'll probably only happen deeper into Jan. Going to battle to find the relevant guys at the office at this time.

I was thinking that the cache terminates the session after 20 minutes due to some timeout being triggered, but the fact that Zax gets 3 resets trying to log into the forum seems to point to something else......

Could also be malware interfering with Zax's browsers [Firefox & Intranet Exploder], but there are unrelated issues as far as mybroadband.co.za is concerned - that have IMO nothing to do with Vodacom - I wouldn't get side-tracked by the forum issues.

Possibly, the 20 minutes does sound like a timeout. Will see if I can confirm any proxy / cache timers.

I think the timeout was related to my PC rather than something on the network. The 20 mins related to the setting "Idle time before hanging up". After I told it not to auto-disconnect the problem went away. Since then I have reset the "Idle time before hanging up" and now it does take cognisance of the traffic flow and times out properly on actual idle time. (Don't know what happened there...)

I also got a response to my query with Ancestry - they suggested I try using IE7, but this had no effect. I have also forwarded them the detailed error code and message so they can relook at it.

Perhaps you guys want to try it and see if you get the same effect or if it is peculiar to me?

Try this:

www.ancestry.co.uk
Select <search>
On search window select <advanced search>
Make sure <Exact matches only> is checked
Type in given name: Joseph, surname: Thorne, Birth year 1845
<search>
You should now get a summary list
Select <1881 England Census> or any other one without a padlock
This is where I get the reset - you should actually get a list of entries.

lets see what happens.....
It works on 3G. Got the same problem in the past and it usually goes away by itself later on or after a couple of retries but some sites get "stuck" permanently so I just forget about them. You could try the Vodacom proxy 196.6.128.12.

Thanks Prometheus. Did you create a temporary account? The search responds differently if you don't log in.

That proxy (and a few other vodacom proxies) didn't make any difference!

Not much closer....

155 data support came back and said I needed to use the unrestricted APN. I eventually got it activated this morning (I have the problem that the provisioning needs to be done by Nashuamobile), BUT I still sit with the problem, so I am not sure where this leaves the whole thing now! I have dropped this back in 155's court so we'll have to see what they come up with next!

Seems to be the same whether I log in or not. Transparent proxy can probably be ruled out. This only leaves the cell you are working from or some local setting. What do you get if you don't log in?

I get pretty much the same when not logged in as well. I agree that the problem must be localised somewhere....

I have tried without local firewalls, internet sharing proxy and anything else I can think of that could affect the internet connection - also trying to isolate similarities between my desktop and laptop configurations - get the same on both
