Just came back from Singapore, had a chance to taste some great beers there, and even do a tasting at a craft brewery:

Asahi Lager




Kronenbourg




Brewerkz






The Brewerkz beers are quite punchy compared to local ones, they tend to have a lot more flavour, IMHO a bit OTT. Or it could be that our ZA beers are simply a bit more subtle.

My favourite was the Black Pig stout, which IMHO is even better than the Triggerfish Impertial Stout.

had these over the weekend, both pretty decent, although the Fraser's Folly was the better of the 2, also had a couple of Whale Tale Ale Draughts yesterday which was also pretty decent

Hah - I just picked up the Frasers stout for the first time. Gonna try it a bit later . Also a new range of beers at Liquor City. There were four (an IPA and something else). This one looked interesting:

Ugh...that Frasers stout has almost no carbonation in it at all - just a slight whisper as it goes down . Just an unlucky batch I guess. Doesn't seem nearly as flavourful as some other local stouts. Will try it again in a few weeks and hopefully get a better batch.

...and I found the Folly to be completely over carbonated... I actually poured it down the drain.

+1, I had precisely the same experience.

That's one of the biggest issues I have with local beers - inconsistency in bottles.

Smack! Republic for example - on tap their beers are fantastic - in bottles they are horrendous.

Swellendam has recently been graced with a craft beer outlet.
Stellenbrau is brewed in Stellenbosch. Problem is that by the time it gets here via Ox Wagon, it's past its prime
