The Craft Beer Thread

I might go for a look see, there's a few there I haven't tried yet

that Soweto Gold is crap, tried it once, never again

If you're going make sure to try the Black Horse range, went to the brewery in Magalies a few months ago. The Irish Ale and Oat Meal Stout are superb.

I have - all tastes the same to me.

Quite happy to stick with beer though :)

I've come to the conclusion I have an allergy to an ingredient in many beers. Haven't been able to identify it yet. But within 5 minutes my nose starts running. Most annoying as I love beer! So I've been switching to cider as my after work drink. I'll still drink beer over weekends though. Everson is the best of the lot. You should try their Brandy Cask Cider or the Single Varietal Cider. Really good.

I wonder if it is not maybe the hop oils that you are allergic to?

Which beers are the worst for you?

Castle or Windhoek lager draught (can't comment on cans or bottles). The previous two towns I stayed in, that's all the pubs had. These are guaranteed to make my nose run in 5-10 minutes.

But I've observed it with craft beer as well, e.g. Birkenhead, Stellenbrau, Hermanus, Darling. But I tend to mix them, so can't pin point it.

Btw, had several Belgian beers this weekend and no runny nose.

That sucks.

I would be exceptionally sad if I was allergic to beer.

It's not that bad. It's not like it's streaming out of my face like when you have a cold. But it's a constant little dribble  requiring blow every 5 minutes. Yeah it sucks. But I'm not stopping (completely)!

Checkers Craft Beer Specials

7 August is International Beer day :D

Thanks. Popped in at burgundy branch while waiting for load shedding to wrap up in my area. As is the usual case with this branch there was very little stock, but I at least got 2 4 packs of kings block house out of the deal. Also noticed that the butchers block was R70 for 4. Where if I had to get them under the any 4 for R80 combo it would actually have been more expensive. No first light in stock at all and some van hunks.
