The Craft Beer Thread

well that depends, your large commercial brewers like SAB use the CO2 from fermentation to inject back into the product prior to packaging to get the desired CO2 levels right, it's also used in the packaging process to purge kegs of oxygen

Some brewers (Guinness) use nitrogen instead of CO2, this gives the tighter, creamier head, problem is nitrogen is not as soluble as CO2 in liquids
Afaik the kegs are still carbed with CO2 - nitrogen is just used when serving.

It's the 10% ...

nope, in some cases nitrogen is introduced during kegging, varies amongst brewers, some keg with CO2 and dispense with N2, others keg with a mixture of CO2/N2

Bought a case of Camel Thorn today when I was leaving Windhoek, pity that OR Tambo baggage handlers don't understand this way up and fragile :(

I had the same thing two years ago on a trip back from Belgium. Was BLEAK.

Ordered 16 Devils Peak beers from Yuppiechef today - unfortunately they will only arrive next week sometime.

Haibo! I hope you have something in the fridge for tonight. Don't come posting here with your Black Label later.

This one should be interesting.

Best of both worlds :p

Red Sky PinotAle

We love a good collaboration and this one is no different, bringing together Beyerskloof's Beyers Truter, one of the biggest proponents of South Africa's Pinotage grape, and Mark Goldsworthy, ex-winemaker and current brewmaster at Red Sky Brewing. The result is a rich, velvety and thoroughly unique Pinotage Ale, which is smooth like an Irish Red Ale with hints of the flavours of an English Brown Ale.

Deep reddish brown in colour
Dense, thick and foamy off-white head
Grape juice and toastiness on the nose with flavours of grape and bread on the palate

Don't think I've ever had a good Red Sky beer - there is always something or other wrong with them.

Off to Liquor City in a short while to do some shopping. Probably see one of you there. Glug glug glug.
