At present I'm toying around with what I can do on my solar set up.

I have a 1080 so "testing" costs nothing but time. Only pull 200 watts and hours

I can make about 1k a month for "free" maybe dbl that adding a second one (maybe 330, watts in totall.

Once I fully understand how everything works I'll consider scaling up.

Def not something I want to rush into.

Does that 1k include eskom costs or are you not counting the elec because it's "free"? Is the 1k from running 24/7?

That's from running 24/7 on solar

If I work out how much I need to run my system it takes 144kw a month so that's about 360 a month off the 1k if you went eskom route.

Just install nicehash everything is explained there, you will make prof on a 1060 even on eskom it will be small but a good start to tinker.

When you get more acquainted with everything then you can mess around. I am still on nicehash after 2 months.

Running my 1080 since 4 october on and half due to loadshedding and now fully on solar



I think R1200 odd isnt bad for no effort

Nicehash is nice. But if want to make net profits, then download a miner such as TRex and mining directly to a pool such as 2miners

While not ideal for gaming machines that are mining, if you have a dedicated mining machine (or many of them), use HiveOS. Its pretty decent. Each of my machines run 8 cards, so this makes managing them a whole lot easier.

I agree HiveOS is a godsend for managing rigs, especially when you have 12 card rigs and need to make OC changes to all of them at once

GPU rigs. Mine are running 8x RX580-8GB cards, includes cpu, sdd, ram, mobo, fanes, power supply, case, etc. Looks like a really big but very loud server.

Yeah Nicehash is nice but they do charge you to use their flashy interface

Also look at coins that you will get faster payouts on, unless you dont mind waiting months for a payout on ETH, 2miners also got the feature to mine ETH but pay outs on Nano so there are no fees involved. Check their blogs lots of good info to get started

I think (I dont have an accurate measurement) about 1.2kva. They use about R2000 a month of electricity at BCMs really high rates.

Have many things to consider as I will essentially have 8 hours free power and around 3-4kw per hour during these times.

Will do careful planning as I can scale the solar and x2.5 production.

I could in theory dabble with asics and switch 3 or so on for 8 hours a day for free - Am I correct in saying that asics will be useless post eth2 and pretty useless on other coins?

I really cant stress enough how loud these things are (cause of the case fans keeping the cards cool). I uploaded this video so you can get an idea.

So if you go the way I did, take the sound into account.
