So, I was recently in Checkers, at the mens Antiperspirant / Deodorant aisle and was wondering how people go about choosing a new deodorant or antiperspirant?

I started taking deodorant cans off the shelf to spray 1 or 2 into the lid, so I can take a whiff and decide whether the smell is for me, but I understand this isn't the most kosher way of doing it, not to mention the few glances I got from staff. I don't want to spend R200 on 6-7 different cans and then have none of them work for me so my question is, what is the best way to test, try out or just generally find a new deodorant. :) Axe deodorant has no lid and has a seal so there's nothing I can spray them into in the store and I don't want to go around breaking seals, if you know what I mean ;).

Also, general favourite Deodorant / Antiperspirant thread. Share your favourite and least favourite scents. Personally, I prefer a soft, clean smell, nothing spicy as it doesn't mix well with my sweat.

Why would you choose a new one?

I have to wonder where parents went wrong if their child needs help picking out deodorant.
I got bored with the Blue Brut one I usually use, so I wanted to try something new.

Edit: @bwana if you were hypothetically forced to decide on a new deodorant, how would you go about deciding which one to pick? Let's say you were even forced to change the brand.

I don't like stuff you can smell a town away. Just don't want to stink like a sweating pig. Shield, it does the job.

Mitchum...

Not the gel one...the one with the solid white stick.

It just works...and I sweat like a whore in church.
I also use Mitchum - but the gel one. It does work and comes in an unscented variety.

PS - LOL at the folks trying that stuff out in the store. I would swerve my trolley to avoid you
