Interesting that their example passcode is a double repitition and also sequential at that...

I suspect when it's a little more complex it may not be so easy. And a full blown password would be another story.

Would be interesting to know how it works though. Not clear if you NEED two phones attached or if it simply means it can crack two at a time.

If you need two then I'm going to guess it does some kind of spoofing with the one phone to the other.

Also I'm going to guess that if you have the wipe after 10 attempts feature enabled that this will be dead in the water, if it's a pure rainbox table type cracking tool. Considering the 2 - 36 hour timeline I suspect that's exactly what it is.

Somehow I'm thinking they've found a work around to the whole timed disable after x passcode attempts... So next version or two of iOS will fix that work around and this $30k device will be totally useless on those devices.

I thought the article was clear on that - unless they edited it:

It reportedly works as follows:
• An iPhone is attached to the box via a Lightning cable. Two phones can be connected at once.

I doubt you would need to crack 2 phones at once but if that were the case, it does give one insight into how it might work.

There was a bug that allowed infinite passcodes to be typed in during recovery, this is what the old system used, and this one most likely aswell, the old system had a bunch of sensors to fool the touch screen (to emulate touches and brute force the passcode), this one probably does it over usb (or i2c) but will most likely use the same technique , this was patched in later version of iOS.

Yeah I did read it like that too.

But the iPhone storage is directly linked to the hardware encryption chip which is why you can't just transplant it to another phone.

So I figured maybe it's more clever than it seems and does some spoofing between them.

In reality I bet it's nothing more than a rainbow table setup and will most certainly not unlock ANY iPhone.

Nah, IMO this has Apple's blessing and CIA is the main client.

Lol. Why not just google and find out the answers instead of typing out paragraphs of nonsense. By the assumptions you made its clear you aren't involved in software or hardware development.

Hint - it is being sold by Greyshift that was started by ex Apple Security team members.

Since you have the inside view why not use it for a change to be useful instead of always being a twat about everything and ever enigmatic?
