The Droid TV thread

I use my for Netflix, Hulu Plus, downloading and yes watching content and playing games as well. Not a hardcore gamer but I like emulators which works just ace and a few games. Not a XBMC fan, only when watching bluray ISO. Not an Amazon prime member but that doesn't work on any Android Media Player device anyway that I've read about. Plex client works I believe but I don't wanna run a plex server on my PC.
Going green here ... External hooked up to MXIII
Pity the mx3 is AWOL at this point in time. Hence my want to get the Gbox q.

I was about to buy the m8 when disaster struck with ICASA.

The trick is here to get a local distributor to honor warrantee, and push the development team for improvements. I have ordered a few devices on EBay or Aliexpress and returns is a nightmare should you get a DOA unit. Also you gotta take customs into account and shipping, wonder how far @AVSupply is with this ICASA thingie, then you can order from them. The support really rocks that we receive.

Fully agree. I've been following this thread for a while. Closest thing I can get is one of those Mygica boxes locally.

I own a few boxes, even the Mygica ones. Yeah I know ... don't judge me I'm a media box hoarder ...The AVSupply customization that he applies is really awesome and I prefer it to factory and even Finless, Stane, or VisionTech roms for the MXIII.
Mygica stock sucks IMHO.

And how is the Mygica atv582 compared to the mx3 and m8? I hate that cartoonish UI too.

The ATV582 is based on an older AMLogic SDK, than the MXIII, might see new firmware this week from them. I don't like ENY M8 ... Bad quality control and they rely on developers to make stuff better, MXIII is on the latest AML SDK. If we can get a Android L device in future it would be best as you have Leanback launcher which you use your normal remote on to make the device friendly for the non techies and even more awesome for the technically inclined.

OH and while I'm at it ... AVSupply's touch and support and we've got a winner.

Checkout Leanback pic here, what do you think?

That is so much better! I think I'll have to wait this out a bit.

If you want a great Media Player that can also play the latest games try the HPH RK3288. It costs a bit more but worth it in the long run.
Can play 4k@60hz, boots up in 7 seconds to homescreen, desktop-like browsing experience, Kodi/XBMC work great.
Already had 14 firmware updates since Oct 2014. Can dual-boot Ubuntu. Full 3D acceleration will be released in Feb by ARM for RK3288 Ubuntu. There is the Firefly development board where people hack and develop there own firmware and improvements and firmware is open source, can work with all RK3288 devices.
They sell with HDMI-IN, but you can send a PM to get the one with 4 USB ports and 4K@60hz.
Took 4 days for delivery.

You can also try Intel Media Players like the Pipo x7

Can play Netflix in 1080p. Also cheap and dual-boot Windows/Android
Problems: Viruses, no 4K, no gigabit ethernet

HI guys. Need some help. I have a CS918 Quad Core. About three days ago it started having trouble with the internet connection. The internet connection indicator stays gray. When i put it in standby and turn it on again without removing the power the date and time has reset. To 01 January 2011 and the time 14:00

What i tried so far was to forget wi fi connection and re setup it. i now removed the power from the player for about an hour. Last resort is a factory reset.

Any help and advice will be appreciated, Thanks guys

So what trouble is AV Supply having with Icasa?
Is there a thread on this?

And why does the folks on BidorBuy still sell these items? Are they not governed by Icasa?

Seems like Icasa wants AVSupply to get licences/compliance certificates for the products they sell which have wifi.

Lots of sellers on bidorbuy disappeared.
The ones still selling use drop-shipping, they don't carry any physical stock and don't buy in their own name so they don't need to be ICASA certified.

I wonder about all the PC shops selling USB wifi adaptors for R50-R200.
They must also get ICASA certification for each device at eg. R4000 per device.
10 different routers and USB wifi adapters and they have to spend +- R40000 before even selling anything.
Most probably don't comply.

What does ICASA actually test on a USB wifi adapter, cellphone, tablet, tv box, router, wireless remote gates, baby monitors, wifi speakers or Samsung TV with built-in wifi to justify the cost of R4000(might be higher, don't know exact cost) per device? If someone already paid the fees to certify a device, that it is safe to enter and use in SA, why does someone else have to pay the fees again?

Would be interesting to know how other countries handle wifi devices.

I doubt if MinixSA has ICASA approval, same applies for all of the BidorBuy sellers and a few of the PC suppliers as mentioned. This whole crap shoot started with an idiot who said that you can watch DSTV for free without a valid DSTV subscription. This is of course a load of bulls....

This is sour grapes IMHO from a competitor. When someone loves what they do, there is no other outcome other than to be successfull. AVSupply renders awesome support. He is really respected in the rom community and has seen a lot of praise even on FreakTab from other legendary firmware creators.

AVSupply will bounce back
