@SL1v3R: You missed the point. I've made it bold below for your benefit.

@midnightcaller

Mygica is good but with the AVSupply rom and support from them provided that you bought it from them.
Yes, but as Looney said earlier it's no longer listed on the AVSupply web site. *snip*

@SeRpEnT: thx for the info

I haven't missed the point so let me say this slowly so that you can understand... The avsupply rom only has cosmetic changes to the the official rom and I am one of their biggest fans but with them not stocking it for now (apparently due to them trying to secure older stock which had a better remote?) Takealot is your next bet.

But seriously, you're still missing the point. JvanD recommended to midnightcaller to buy the MyGica from AVSupply specifically because of the excellent support they give (provided you bought it from them). The fact that one could buy one from some other supplier is irrelevant in this context.

Peace.

My DroidTV ATV582 doesn't see my 5GHz wi-fi network.

The settings on the router used to be Channel Width: Auto and Channel: Auto. I changed them to Channel Width: 40MHz and Channel:36, and made sure the DroidTV had channel 36 ticked. But it still doesn't see the SSID (which isn't hidden). My tablet finds and uses the 5GHz network just fine on either of the above settings.

Is there anything else I should check or do to make it work?

Advice appreciated.

Did it see it before the changes?

What's the distance from the router to the unit?

It didn't see it on "Auto" which is why I changed it. (Found some reference to picking a setting other than Auto in my Google searches but not related to the DroidTV specifically.)

It's about a meter away from the router. I have two routers positioned next to each other. The one is 2.4GHz only. The other is a dual but I have only the 5GHz enabled on it.

And each router has its own ssid? Turn off the 2.4ghz and see if it connects?

Thanks for trying to help. Yes, each router's SSID is unique. I turned off the 2.4GHz but the Droid then sees neither of my routers. I tried a scan under Settings / Other / More / WiFi but it sees only the neighbour's wifi (as it had previously).

I'm either missing something really simple or the Droid isn't working as it should.

The 582 is only 2.4 GHz if memory serves me correct, unless they changed it up during the 2015 year. I know the new 2015 model 1800e has both bands.

I think you're right. I was sure I'd read that it could do 5GHz but it must've been specs which were incorrectly attributed to my model. Certainly there's no mention of it on the box. So that was the simple thing I missed. Thanks!

It clearly says on the description of the tv box it's
"Bulid in 802.11 b-g-n WiFi module with antenna inside"
no mention of ac wifi.
If a device has 100mbps ethernet it will also not have 5G wifi.
If something is not mentioned on a product there is a 90% chance it doesn't have it.
Only R2000+ boxes have 5G wifi and 1000mbps ethernet, you won't get those features cheaper.
:)

I see takealot has a mygica atv 585 and 582.

Whats the big difference? Which one would you guys suggest?

Thanks @rph72 much appreciated

What was the quality like if you did possibly watch a stream?

I've only watched some of the old free kyknet stuff and it streams well on my 4MB FNB Connect uncapped account via WiFi.

Haven't signed up for the 7 day trial so I cannot comment on how it streams HD.
