The Droid TV thread

It definitely not sluggish ,but not as fast as kodi on my i7 desktop :P

Only that one for now ,probably won't order anymore stock ,because of the exchange rate :(
Slow to boot maybe but pretty snappy with a wireless mouse, I'm using it for Showmax and Media Player - very happy.

BTW the AC Ryan isn't that bad, it gets the job done but is severely lacking in the networking department by comparison.

It's a piece of k@k

Freezes constantly when playing youtube.

Struggles to connect to the server.

Just generally shiat.

Takes forever to boot up, will freeze entirely on occasion.

Regularly forgets your login information.

I can go on

So I had my MXQ for little over a year now and last week it went pear shaped. Exactly like every other Android device I ever owned, it only lasted a year. It randomly freezes, sometimes while streaming other times sommer on the home screen. Turning it off and on again works 70% of the time, otherwise it hangs on the loading screen.

Any fixes? Firmware updates? Or should I just bin the POS and get an apple tv? Or a HTPC? Main requirements is streaming directly off my microserver and Netflix.

Have you tried clearing the cache via the Android recovery menu?

Tried it. Made no difference at all. Thing still hangs at random. Factory reset next?

Yes. Before you factory reset, what firmware version you on? Under "Settings > More Settings"

Something else you should try is a different power supply

So to confirm Showmax will not work on the MX2 since it requires DRM and the MX2 does not seem to support this?

The MX2 is past retirement age and and the chipset is discontinued by AMLogic.
RIP MX2
You might still be able to add this your build.prop if rooted media.amplayer.widevineenable=true and see if it works.
But that will be the least of your problems.

OK. croniccorey is still providing the Ember firmware though. Running Kodi 15.2 nicely.

Until today ... my Ethernet port seems to have died earlier this evening :( Will try a USB to Ethernet adapter ...

Ah well just moved over to my Odroid-C1+ which was pre-configured as a back for just such an emergency plus it plays my H265 HEVC content as well :p

Did a factory reset, still borked. Halfway through setting up from scratch it froze up. Will scratch around in my stash for a power supply, otherwise I guess it's going into the bin. I had to copy shows onto a hard drive like some sort of pilgrim to watch on my TV tonight.

It doesn't need to go in the bin. It just needs a memory wipe

LOL, it's true tho - I had to watch using my TV's built-in media player for a week once. Felt like I was back in the dark ages.

It's fckn horrid, I am going to die.

Cool, I am at home tonight so hopefully I can spend some time one this.

BTW, Thanks for the awesome support! Other suppliers won't give a hoot.

Hi all
This thread is just too much to read through for my answer.
I have a 4Mb line with telkom and download via slickbeard/NZB
I would like to stream via showmax for a few months to catch up with some local content but I can ditch them later.
What device should I buy to load slickbeard/nzb on and put content on a HD , use showmax and later do the Hulu/Netflix etc thing

Keeping in mind I need something simple , small and easy to use to satisfy WAF (Wife acceptance factor)
