The Droid TV thread

Great.
Where did you buy yours from?

Aliexpress. Getting the "dim" issue on DStv now, but I can live it frankly. The lean back interface is really nice. Initially set up my vpn on the mi Box directly, but it's pretty unstable, so reverted to having on the router again. Other than that no issues. Haven't tried Netflix, since it works perfectly ok on the Samsung app on my tv.

Cool.

Still waiting for mine from Geekbuying. Bought it last week and hope I will have it by end of May.

Wrong device. That's China only firmware not android 6. They all look the same but are not. You want international version running android 6 TV os. 2gb8gb and not the 3S model @Flakmunki

Huh???? It says android 6 version.... what am i missing???

Kodi installs straight from the play store. For dstv now you'll need to install sideload launcher and then install the dstv now apk. Apparently the latest one works, although it dims the screen a bit. Alternatively you can use a slightly older apk which doesn't dim the screen, but needs a mouse to operate (I forget the version number but a quick search in this thread should help).

Yes and yes

Xiaomi Mi Box

Add R65 charges plus 1 month to two months arrival time. Fast shipping is expensive and normally incurs duty and handling fee of r450. So R1700 local stock with overnight delivery is a good price

Just to confirm this Mi Box comes with Android 6.0 and can load latest Kodi 17, and does this have a Ethernet cable connection or is WiFi OK if in close range (2meters)?
Asking kindly ;-)

Android TV 6 os. Perfect with kodi. Perfect WiFi no Ethernet even at range unlike Chinese boxes. Ethernet needs usb to Ethernet.

Thank you, my ISP thought Ethernet connection between router and box is better, but me thinks a box that works with Android TV 6 and Kodi 17 is better. Does the remote work OK with scrolling, page up page down etc.?

I always recommend having airmouse minikeyboard or airmouse no matter what android box you have for easy web browsing and using apps designed for touch. Or you could use a wireless pc mouse. Your experience will always be determined by how much you prepared to spend. However once you have everything it's golden.

Thank you Damac. My mind is sort of set on the Xiaomi Mi Box 4K Android 6.0 Media Player from Cyberrange. I gather from reading up on forums that an airmouse mini keyboard will be ideal to use with the Mi Box. Being new with the TV streaming part of Web matters I am not sure if any airmouse is compatible with the Mi Box, will read up some more. I agree that while I am setting up rather spend a bit more and get a decent set-up that can give me TV access using my fibre connection. The trend seem to be towards movies, but I never watch movies on TV, give me documentaries, comedy and SA rugby and cricket and I am happy. I will even consider a subscription to something like pitv.co.za.

Airmouse or airmouse minikeyboard works with any Android device via USB dongle on Port. Even works on PC

Off the peripherals chat for a brief moment..(however my issue may be peripheral related....)

Hooked up my MiBox and did the updates etc....Installed Kodi from the app store.....sideloaded the latest dstv now apk....

And my problem,

App opens-put in my email and password-and nothing-Login button seems non functional. MiBox Remote scrolls past the login button as if nothing was there and my connected mouse doesnt help no matter how many times i click login...

Help please... any ideas? what version off teh app is known to work best here?

Use a PC USB mouse or wireless to login

Had a USB mouse plugged in and still no joy, however....

Strangly enough, i clicked on the "forgot password" link out of frustration just to try and see if it worked and when i returned to the logon screen, i could then highlight and click on the login button! Bizarre....?

Anyway, so the app is working now with the same Dim screen/brightness issue which is slightly annoying. Hope they sort it soon.

Hey there. Wanted to know if anyone could recommend some nice games i can download for my droid box. I have a HPH NT-N8+ with a Mele F10 Pro airmouse that has a button for "game mode". Haven't used my box for playing games yet so not sure if it's built for that and how the performance will be.

Get a bluetooth controller, or use an xbox controller via usb

Just search for controller supported games in the playstore.

Asphalt, Dungeon Hunter, Modern combat, Raynman all work

Emulation is also a good option.
