The Droid TV thread

You need to take the MXIII apart to remove the SD card.

There are no screws holding anything together - you basically just pull the edges apart and wedge it. Try not to scratch the device, I usually shove a small plastic card in between the adjacent edges. Be careful not to hurt any of the components.
I usually take out all of the components cables, power cable etc and sit in the light when inserting the SD card, its got to line up perfectly.

See attached pic for and opened MXIII.

Good luck!
I'm guessing that you will also find a youtube video on opening the box.

So I copied the file to an SD card and placed it in my MX3.

Unfortunately the MX3 did not see the the SD card at all. In fact its now stuck inside the MX3.

Anyone ever experienced this and got it out again? I don't want to open the device (unless its easy) but I don't want "lose" my 32Gb SD card either!

When I 1st got mine I did the same thing. I shook the box a little and the card fell out.:D

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Unfortunately it seems the card fell in so I'll have to open it up :-(

Could not find any videos on how but it seems pretty simple.

DSTV Now Working on at least one MX3!

So I've made progress with unrooting the box after lots of research and experimenting. Unroot can be achieved via the following method and in this order:

Install Root Browser from the Play Store
Browse to /system/xbin/ and delete busybox
Browse to /system/app/ and delete Superuser.apk (this step is not necessary if using Mediaman's custom rom)
Browse to /system/bin/ and delete su
Reboot

The box will now be unrooted.

I am still not able to get past DSTV Now's "this device is registered to another user error" and I think this may be based on the bootloader reflecting as "unknown" which possibly means "unlocked"?. I have been testing recently on Mediaman's (Avsupply) latest custom rom and am not sure if I will have the same problem with the stock rom. Is there a way to return the bootloader to a stock and unmodified state or is this just how the box comes from the factory? I think this may be the final hurdle to overcome to use apps like DSTV Now and Sky Go as the various root checker apps are all showing the box is not rooted and the only thing I could think of was the bootloader status.

I can confirm that DSTV Now works on a colleague's MX3.

I also get the "this device is registered to another user error" on my MX3. We spotted that both of our DSTV now apps have the same Device ID(in manage device settings in DSTV now app) on the MX3. Which means that he was most likely the first MX3 user to register the DSTV now app. I have tried to change the Android ID in an attempt to alter the Device ID, this had not effect. My next angle of attack was to change/spoof the MAC address(haven't confirmed these are the same), but my feeble attempts(apps from the playstore, yeah really didn't try hard) have failed so far.

Here's to hoping this points someone in the right direction to get a working solution :D

Will this method fix it. I did notice that when I reflashed it previously it worked until i switched it off at night. when I rebooted it hung at the loading screen.

Please send me an email to [email protected]

I'll send you links to an image file and a USB recovery method

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I'm going to give this my full focus next week, and will try find a working solution for all

I'm confident that it will work if you use the OTG port to upgrade the firmware to fix the boot loader. If you flash via OTG port the boot loader also gets repaired similar to when the unit leaves the factory. Having said this, perma bricked devices on the other handin worst states require ... Err Uhm other methods to get going
Don't stress too much, we'll get it going

I just used the sd card in the side port. is it not the same.

make sure your S802 device is powered powered off, with the USB OTG port connected to your PC. Use a toothpick to press the recovery button, and power the device. The USB burning tool should automatically detect your device. (If not, install the moborobo tool).

How would I connect the OTG port to my pc oO

Let's try again ... connect the mini OTG USB port to the MXIII and connect the end of the USB to a female USB connector, then the female USB to PC USB. I bought a female USB at Matrix for R35 two weeks ago.

Oh, and I also heard that some supplied cellphone USB cables work provided that it fits in the OTG port on the MXIII. Not sure of which Nokia and Samsung's folks are referring to but that's the word on the street

This is great news! I too had a feeling that the Device ID was being cloned and that it was likely all mx3's had the same device id. I also tried changing the device id using Google Play apps but without luck.

If AVSupply gets this aspect sorted I still think it's going to be necessary to unroot the device which is not an issue for me.

Its the recovery file - 90% of problems are attributed to the SD Card.

I tried the new SD card. No change :(
The Google TV boot logo come up, screen goes black for about a second and then it reboots :(

Whats else can I try?
