are good enough vs The minix 8x h plus or z64 Android?

There seems to be quite a price difference.

I want a box that will handle all formats of my downloaded content via external HDD, and provide some gaming entertainment when i feel like it (shooters, driving games using a controller maybe) and also some you tube streaming/browsing when i want. and also some candy crush and sim city for the wife when shes board at home.

I need something reliable that wont need me to pieter all the time.

The 8xh plus + a2 lite air mouse combo seems like a quality package for a bit more bucks vs the rest. but only because there seems to be regular updates and support from the user community. And of course the review videos dont harm either

Some local opinion will be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

PS: I completely forgot.

I'm glad you mentioned this because most of the android boxes do not have the relevant drm capability required by the dstv now app. I've got two Mygica atv582 and can confirm they happily run dstv now. Streaming doesn't work on the Supersport app but that's covered by the dstv now app.

Im running the following with the help of unotelly where needed:
- Netflix (latest version but limited to 480p)
- Hulu (free version)
- Plex
- Kodi
- BBC iPlayer
- dstv now
- vevo
- pandora
- Tunein Radio

I've learnt that when it comes to Android boxes firmware support is more important than hardware specs. I've had a roku, mx3, dedicated windows htpc and still have a Samsung Smart TV and ps3 but in terms of overall flexibility the atv582 comes out tops (Netflix limited to 480p being the only pain).

Thanks for this response.
is it not possible to just stream via a browser?

Mbox.co.za doesnt seem to be helpful... nothing but silence so far from there

Not always possible and remember you would be running the mobile version of a browser which is limited.

Got the MyGica on the Takealot special. DSTV Now, Kodi and plex works, what more can you ask for. Excellent little device. DSTV streaming is also way better than the pc streaming, no stutter or buffering.

What you guys using to navigate DSTV Now's (horrible) interface on these Android TV boxes? The UI was really made for touch.

I'm using an Air Mouse on my Fire TV and it does the job, but far from ideal.

Yep, same here. I'm using the one from avsupply but the rii remote from takealot is also good (maybe better).

I've got the Rii from TA. It's decent, build quality ain't great but it's okay. The programmable button feature is pretty dope.

SuperSport works with my Fire TV so use that most of the time instead of DSTV Now.

I find that dstv now has a much better TV guide when compared to Supersport so it's easier just to use a single app for all my dstv needs.

Tried reading through most of the posts on this thread however still have some questions.

I want to replace my htpc with one of these android boxes. Am I right in assuming the following:
- it can run any andriod app similar to my android phone (Netflix, Dstv, deezer etc)
- kodi runs similar as on a Windows box
- pass through most surround sound formats to capable amp?
- can be controlled via logitech harmony IR or usb ri wireless keyboard

Which of these boxes or specs do I need to look for to make sure it is snappy and can easily deal with 1080p content. Also something that is well supported from a software side with frequent updates?

I basically would like a htpc that can run kodi and any other streaming app that runs on Android. Would hate to buy something just to find out Dstv app does not work.

Sorry if this has been covered

Just read from here http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?p=16681167

I did read that but the 480p Netflix concerned me. Why would this be?

First need to recover my box :)

@Jvan, is the firmware stable?

Yes it's fine however some of the Lollipop components are outdated and this results in no or limited Google Play ....
