The Droid TV thread

Thanks donanicky

I think that you're correct, Google Widevine is missing or disabled :(

Do you perhaps know how to enable it or install it or which firmware I can install to get it to work?

You need a rooted device to enable it. I know the mygica devices are rooted by default out of the box.

Thanks. My Samsung S2 Mini is rooted. Where do I go to enable Widevine?
You must edit the build.prop file. If you see an entry for Widevine, just set it to true or enabled. I saw this on a forum post on mbox.co za, haven't tried it myself.

I don't know which roms have Widevine installed. There is another thread here on mybb when someone installed marshmallow and it worked. I have the original Galaxy s with Cyanogenmod KitKat, but it doesn't work

Has anyone managed to get better visualization add-ons running for the music player? The rotating bar equalizer is so lame, isn't there something available like Winamp's visuals?
Alternatively is there a way to use the fanart screensaver as a "slideshow" whilst listening to music?

I've also been looking for better visualisations. The only alternative I've found so far is to run a slideshow from my pictures folder (share) while the music is playing.

For kodi, is there a skin which allows for more than 5 add-on shortcuts. Am stuck with the default because the SO uses the shortcuts only.

Basically I want the interface to show only add-on pics on startup. Like 15-20 of them.

We only use the video addons anyway

Thanks, will give that a try. MBox seems like a good forum to post things about this type of thing too :)

I think that I have the Cyanogenmod ROM installed

Will try update the build.prop file and see if that resolves. Holding thumbs

Thanks donanicky :)

I had a look at the build.prop file but there isn't any entry for Widevine :(

Can I just add the line in or do I need to install a codec of sorts or get another ROM that includes Widevine?

Samsung GS2's don't have Amlogic chips like some tv boxes so a build.prop change will do absolutely nothing.
You will have to try several custom firmwares.

I am looking to purchase a android TV box but as this would be my first I am not sure what to expect.
I am trying to decide between:
MyGica ATV582
MXQ Android TV Box
MX4 Quad Core Android TV Box

I would appreciate any advise on which one is the best option and if maybe there is something better.

Thanks

If you are looking for product support then it would be best to stick with a brand name i.e. MyGica. The others are made by every Tom, Dick and Harry so you lucky if you get any updates.

go with the Mygica. The mygica comes rooted out of the box and updated regularly with patches.

I just saw that you can get a MXQ Plus TV Box Android 5.1 4K TV Box, quite tempting as it has Android 5.1 at R1 200.
Where the mygica is Android 4.4 at about R1 800.

Does the MXQ range not get regular updates?

I can get them at a store here for just over a grand and wanted to know if they are any good as well. Reviews say they are good but the WiFi sucks which is an issue for me as my Internet is all WiFi based.

Just take the plunge on AliExpress - the MXQ Pro (4K Android 5.1) goes for about R650 shipping and duties included. I've had mine for 2-months now and just love it. If you want to pay double that for "support" then it is cool, but at that price and the rate these things develop, you'll be able to buy the next gen box in a year or two and still be in the same sort of ballpark.

I've had no wifi issues whatsoever, obviously you won't get the same streaming performance as with ethernet, but 720 files run smoothly.

Are those compatible with DSTV Now, and the SuperSport app?
