The Droid TV thread

Thank you, will do
Just looked at the Minex NEO U1 from Amazon at $135 as an option as well
Beelink Mini MX s905 not the newer the s905x revision can be flashed with Minix u1 rom and costs $42-$47

Avoid any MXQ product, they have overheating issues and no firmware support from the manufacturer.
In a similar price range you can import a device, can be shipped with DHL, EMS or airmail($39) and already has Marshmallow firmware instead of KitKat that the MXQ 4K uses.
Netflix sound is also in sync which is a problem on the MXQ 4K.
The MXQ 4K also has no bluetooth support.
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pr...G-with-BT4-0-support/1710008_32750590406.html
Supports 4K@60hz
10-bit H264, 10-bit HEVC, VP9, bt.2020
Fully working HD Audio(DTS, DTSHD, TrueHD, EAC3, DD) & auto frame-rate switching for videos.

Thank you, will do

But at $135 !! Shoo wee.
I can confirm what xbmcfan says.
Got the HPH NT-N8 (the 2 Gb) one. So far I'm quite happy with it.
Worked out to around R860-00, if remember correctly. I already had a gyro mouse, so saved a few bob there.

DSTV Now/SS? Either the apps or on Chrome, if I can get a confirm on this I'm buying one.

Does the auto-framerate switching work in Kodi too?

Yes, auto frame-rate switching works in RKMC(Kodi), RK Video Player(the stock video player) and I think MXPlayer.
If your video frame-rate is 24/25/30/50/60 and your screen resolution is 720/1080p@60hz then it can switch the screen to the frame-rate of the video before playback.
On a similar more expensive RK3288 device that use the same base firmware and a different chipset but from the same chipset manufacturer, a user is busy helping with troubleshooting of DSTV Now.
We saw from the logs, it detected some kind of root(even if unrooted) and after a while managed to bypass that problem.
Now it is complaining about some Acodec problem, that is some kind of codec for sound and part of libstagefright.
Netflix had a similar issue a year ago with some Acodec error but it was fixed.
I have send logs through to the manufacturer and they will investigate it soon.
All of this was on Lollipop firmware.
I have no idea if the situation is different on Marshmallow firmware since no one could test yet, would be great if someone could.
The user did mention DSTV Now is working in Chrome browser but not in the DSTV Now app currently because of that error we are still waiting for feedback for.
The SS app also plays highlights, I don't have an account so can't test the live feeds.
Netflix and Showmax also work fine.

Hi guys. I want to know something and would appreciate any feedback. What's the difference between the S805 and S905 MXQ droid TV box??

Hmmmmmm.... Ok we just need to test if SS live runs in Chrome, not too concerned about the apps.

I'll PM you my DSTV login details.

Is this the best Android TV Box to buy or should I go for the Mi Box? Not many app options on Samsung Tizen. :(

Edit: My requirement is for 4k streaming.

Okay, so I will reply to my own post. :-p

Settled on using Plex. There is an app for the TV and the server is pretty easy to set up and I am using the free account. Just a pity that my TV doesn't have 1gbps interface. Happy with this setup, for now.

Just tested Supersport live streams in Chrome on the HPH NT-N8 media player and it's working.
I will now try to get some unrooted firmware and try to find out if the chipset manufacturer can identify the codec problem of why a video doesn't start in the Supersport app.

Hey guys. Sorry if this is already asked but I hope someone can help. My brother in law has MXQ S805 and he is battling to play exodus movies and tv shows, when he clicks for example in theaters it shows it's loading for awhile and it just times out and goes nowhere. Is there like a first setup when you get the s805 to get Kodi to work? Or is his box faulty? Would appreciate some feedback, I don't know how much more to help him. Thanks so much

Remove the installed Kodi and reinstall the latest Kodi 17 beta 5 or SPMC.

http://download.semperpax.com/spmc/android-arm/SPMC-20161121-1c72918-spmc-jarvis-armeabi-v7a.apk
They will only run on Lollipop firmware.

If the MXQ S805 still runs KitKat firmware, you should forget about running Kodi on it as Kodi 17 or newer will refuse to install on it if it doesn't have Lollipop firmware. In that case you will be stuck with an outdated Kodi 16.1(http://mirrors.kodi.tv/releases/android/arm/kodi-16.1-Jarvis-armeabi-v7a.apk) full of bugs or you can throw the S805 in the bin and get a new device.

All the illegal addons are probably outdated and not functioning anymore.
Reinstall only the addons you require like Youtube etc.
