The Droid TV thread

Get another for a second TV.

Got mine on dx.com . The X8 was only R1595. No air mouse either. X9s was R2135. Also got a W-Shark 2.4Ghz mini keyboard for R185.

Going to check dx I normally order from Geekbuying or Gearstones. Got Three air mouse mini keyboards here. Get two Mojo blue tooth game controllers this week so Mrs and son can play android games on our boxes
 
there are so many places to buy from that you can spend hours looking for the best price/delivery option. They all pretty much come from the same place. Careful of SA sites that offer you the same thing as a drop shipment and charge you double the price.

I just checked DX and I can get the same Minix deal locally, with warranty etc for R140 more. I assume with DX though that you must pay customs etc which will no doubt be more than R140.

Geekbuying worked out to only R355 cheaper than local. Again, I assume you'll have to pay customs and duty and clearing fees?

Isn't the MiniX U1 expensive?
There are just as good devices for streaming for half the price.

R1800 locally, seems reasonable to me. But, as I introduced myself to this thread, I'm brand new to these devices.

I bought the My Gica atv 582. Updated it, 500mb, downloaded the DSTV NOW app. It installed and I can open it and view tv channels etc. However, whenever I click on WATCH LIVE, the white loading circle will load and then kick back to the home page. It does not want to play catch up or live tv. It is loaded as a device under my devices. In chrome it will not stream as it says device not supported.

Build version V002M801_20160720. Is this the latest? Is there some trick that I am missing?

That device doesn't support DSTV Now so you won't get it working.

LOL, you'll notice my reply and quote here was about costs of kit imported vs locally, where I gave the Minix as an example, not a comparison of specs.

In any case, those specs mean very little to me. I have a 5 HDD server with 14TB of space on it currently, so SATA and USB ports I don't need, I have a decent amp with multi HDMI in, Android versions matters not to me when running Kodi and 16GB flash is already double my current Emtec capacity and I have no issues at the moment after changing advanced settings xml file in Kodi to maximise cache.

Having said that, I imagine comparing devices with and without those extra bits would influence price, but again, my post was in relation to import/local using the Minix.

Use browser to install dstv 1.5.7 do not let store update. Should work
 
It would be great if there could be a sticky thread in this subforum which keeps record of the following frequently asked questions:
Which android media player devices support:
1. DSTV Now / Supersport
2. Showmax
3. Netflix in HD
4. Different fileformats - maybe list the ones that supports everything out there.
5. Highest resolutions. List the ones that support the top resolutions like 4K etc.
6. USB3

Overall not too happy with mygica. Bought it from Makro, hope I can go and return it for a refund. Will rather keep on using the laptop to stream.

Why may I ask? Had mine for a year and it's perfect.

To get dstv to work enable widevine in the buildprop file. Google for more info. Relatively simple job.

Oh and get an airmouse, stock remote is awful
 
I have a MyGica 582 and a 64GB micro SD card. How do I merge the SD card with the MyGica to ensure I have more space available on it?
