The Droid TV thread

Then you won’t go wrong with the Mi Box, I’m not even bothered about some of these half glued together boxes with varied support and functionality. The only other box I would ever touch is the Nvidia Shield. If you home network allows the Mi Box to be connected wirelessly then I’d hands down go for that rather.
Ye got LTE at the moment so wireless isn't a problem. Where would be the best place to buy from and how long does it usually take to get delivered? I see there aren't really any local sellers.

I think like R1800 local
About 1000 at gearbest

tvme.co.za is local and sells the Mi Box for R1600. Got mine from them and delivery was quick.

I have both the Mi Box and the Lit. The lit feels cheap and it doesn't run smooth. The Mi feels premium and is much smoother than the lit.

Also, where plex on the lit doesn't do ac3 movies, plex on the Mi has no problem.

Mi Box is the best of the rest. Except a Nvidia Shield of course. But compare apples with apples and the Mi box kicks ass.

Tvme.co.za out if stock till Jan unfortunately :(

Gearbest is your friend, R400 over the cheapest local pricing is a winner

Please run 3D mark on both boxes and post the scores on here.

I see the nVidia Shield TV is discounted on Amazon again. Going for just under R2700 delivered to South Africa.

I spotted it yesterday , the ad does not clearly state that its the 2017 model , FAQ has a vague reply.

What's the difference, if any, between the 2017 and the older model?

The processor is the same between the 2015 and 2017 model, so in that regard there's not much difference. I think the 2015 model is bigger in size, otherwise they're pretty much the same in terms of OS version and specs and such.

So mostly just a cosmetic difference.
