The Droid TV thread

So I guess thing to remember is those not on the Lit Box, MiBox or Shield is to not upgrade your DSTV Now application as they started blocking other devices.

In one manner I’m glad that they noticed the other two boxes and not the Lit Box only however in the other breath I think it’s crap that every single android mobile device can get the APK. I guess with the proper support for TV they need to clamp down somewhat.

Haven’t seen any issues with staying on the old APK for Android TV and I presume Boxes who run the mobile variant of Android will be fine still.

DSTV have said if the box is Google certified then it's fine. They could change their mind though, but it may not be possible to block certified devices without blocking everything.

Guys, any idea where I could source a power supply for my Nvidia Shield TV?
Mine is the 2015 model.

My unit just switched off suddenly today and won't turn back on. I'd like to first see if it's a fault with the PSU before seeing what to do with the device itself.

Hi mate, I don't specifically have a shield but my experience with broken power supplies is you just need to get a replacement (not specifically an OEM replacement) that has matching Voltage and Amperage should match or be more than the original power supply.

My Roku 4 power supply got burnt during a power outage and I used a spare I had with matching Voltage and more amperage and all good for a couple of months now (however i had to cut and join the original cable in order to reuse the little head that plugs into the device as the replacement's head did not match my Roku4 one)

So if you have much trouble getting and OEM replacement you could try that too, after all it's just copper wire and an AC- DC transformer

That's the issue for me. That this is a propriety connector for this particular device.
Your solution is the one that I think I'll follow. Snip the end off the PSU that I have and then search for another power supply with those specs.

Thanks :)

Some insight regarding the Google certification on the 802, 805, 812 boxes on the Mygica forum:

http://mygicasupport.com/index.php?...ice-not-supported/&tab=comments#comment-27371

Feedback from Mygica moderator Justin:

"The issue is not Device ID, it is because the devices being used are not Google Certified. DSTV decided to make their app only work with Google Certified Devices on their recent app update. Plus the certified OS was Android 4.4, I can see you're using 5.1"

"Yes the 582 was certified before, but it expired and Google is no longer renewing or accepting AOSP Google Certified Applications for TV Boxes
Only for Mobile/Tablet Devices"

"We're trying to find a work around for this, but cannot promise anything."

What vexed me was the fact that it was stated the Mygica boxes where GMS certified and then being told it was never promised - luckily I corrected the notion.

The thing to take into account is that GMS certifcation status expires in general, and software and firmware are continiously updated.

IMHO ... China just wants your money
Souls will do - but money will work just fine for little to best effort after sales support.

I was watching the soccer last night and the picture/frames kept skipping throughout the game, on the Mibox. Anyone know why this happens?

Probably low wifi signal...Have noticed that even though it shows full signal on the device it still sits around 5-11mb connection. Have bought a USB to RJ45 dongle so will see if it works. Picking it later today.

Running unifi equipment and did check information on unifi device. So basically dont trust the wifi indicator.

Or Its your internet connection :)

WiFi does seem poor on mibox, thought it was too far from router but Roku works 100% when I swapped them .

Hmm. My router is right next to the box and Im running a 50Mbps line. The dstv app normally readjusts the quality if its the speed, this is more of a break in picture and then followed by a readjustment.

Okay...to be honest I havent noticed any picture breaks in other channels...maybe it was from feed?

only getting the usb dongle for media on kodi

Possibly, will continue to monitor. Maybe I should reset the MiBox its slowing down a bit.

Well plugged the dongle in and everything just seems faster. Loading times overall... Much better feeling than over the wifi

Also got this since Friday streaming direct from the website (PC) ... Checked with a friend and he is getting the same problem ... Must be something on DSTV server side.
It's almost like a bad "movie rip"

I have the same issues. DSTV issue.

What is the best way to copy files to an Android tv box (mibox) over a network? Do I need to instaĺl a ftp server or samba app, or is there a native way?

or is there a native way?
I think ES explorer will do that.

Boxes like the Zidoo X9S or X10 run OpenWRT in parallel to Android, so it is just a matter of mounting a folder in OpenWRT and it is available on the network.

Another option is if your router has a USB port. Some routers have sharing capability built in. Those that don't but have a USB port can be Rooted with OpenWRT (or similar) and can then use the USB for mass storage and sharing.

OpenWRT has Samba and FTP options, and some others too.

Thanks. I will go dig around in ES settings a bit later
