The mission capable rate, which measures the percentage of time aircraft can perform at least one of their tasked missions, dropped from 67% in fiscal 2021 to 44% in fiscal 2025, GAO found.
The full mission capable rate, the share of time aircraft can perform all assigned missions, slid from 38% to 25% over the same period.
The exposes a range of problems with the F35 logistics. The US military has has moved the warehousing and supply chain over to private contractors. This means that they decline delivery of parts to an active war zone. Commercial shipping also lacks the chain-of-custody rigor of military operations, as we can see in the Hong Kong incident. Another problem is that commercial companies run on a just-in-time basis, while the military needs just-in-case for their operations. This is made worse by the military not having insight into where the parts are at any time.I assume a lengthy customs inspection was done in Hong Kong
