The F-35 thread

Interesting to see the F-35 is operating at almost double the requirement for flight hours per fault and well under the requirements for man hours for maintenance.

Interesting . Have seen the articles regarding issues with firing the gun o n the F-35A. It seems to be cracking the aircraft's skin around the gun port so it is only now authorised for combat use.

Ok can we have tomcats again please. They just worked?
did they? weren't they also expensive to maintain, and pretty unreliable, especially the engines and radar systems,
more surprising the Iranians still fly them, as old and as ancient as they are.

but I guess even compared to what the Iranians got from the Russians a ancient F14 is still better.

pathetic, all those billions and they couldn't even get the guns to fire properly without stripping the paint.
am genuinely surprised the Israelis brought F35's, and didn't just stick with their heavily upgraded F15's and F16's,

but then again, I ask myself, did the Israelis really have a choice in the matter?
after all the IAI Lavi was killed off by the Americans as it would have unfairly Competed with the F16,

so maybe something similar happened here, here's a few Billions, but you can only buy a F35 , or else.

Those F-35I's did a serious number on the Iranian Air defence during the last strikes since they were the first to go feet dry.

why is it those F35's are the most successful of the run, as compared to all the others where you just hear about the issues,
is it because the Israelis added so many things to make extreamly unique F35's?

This thing datalinked to a F-35C or Hawkey finding the victims.
Well I believe the US has the idea to use the Super Hornet as a missile truck.
So it stands at the back, the F-35A/B/C penetrate hostile airspace and target all hostile AA systems, and then the Super Hornets launch missiles which then get guided in by the F-35s.
Minimal risk, maximum effect.

The Israeli's like to have their orders customised based on what they know about the airspace they will be flying in.

Maybe because the F-35 can fly in non-permissive environment where most other fast jets would be detected and engaged? And no, the F-35i isn’t that different in doing that.

Dont argue with jet fighter. Nickname checks out

so the Americans dont? why?
makes no sense, after all the F35 is an American design, not a Israeli Design.
The Israeli's would use a different suite of computers and gear I would believe.
Likely interfaces with Iron Dome and other systems to advise pilots which targets to not engage because they are already targetted.
Obviously I am spit balling ideas here.

or what I think is the Israelis ripping the jets to pieces when they arrived in Israel, and completely rebuilding the crappy electronics with better sturdier electronics that addressed many of the concerns they had that were ignored by the Americans in the design phase.

after all the Israelis keep some of the oldest F16's and F15 in the air, as well as some of the oldest Apaches flying, they likely have so much experience in rebuilding and improving avionics and control systems that its completely possible that Israeli F35's are some of the most capable and advanced versions out there.

what I always find funny, is the Americans designed the F35, and never took the Israelis battle experience and knowledge into account. and now sit with issues with their own F35's,

makes me wonder if Israel had gone it alone into building their own Fighter from day 1, what would it have looked/performed like
after all the Americans killed the Lavi program, but if Israel had continued and built a capable competitor to the F16-F15 of the day,

what would the middle east look like today?

A bit more details on the issues surrounding the 25mm.
Mauser offered them a well proven gun that was also suitable for ground attack, but they declined. Now they are going to have to do some hard work to replace the A-10.

The link above seems to be at the level of MyBB journalism, the same author published a story in March 2024 that is very similar (a lot of it is word for word identical) and claimed the gun was now effective.
