The fine wine thread

The wine was not bad considering its age. Good colour. No foul tastse either.

lucky you, we opened an 85 Uitkyk Estate Red the other day, and it tastes like bland monis/ribena

Dessert wine is glorious when served chilled. It is sweet but not cloying

Have two 375ml bottles of 1987 Noble Lievland Late Harvest. Had a wine collector from Franschhoek offer me R1000 for one bottle in May. I was astonished that he would consider it worth that much. He told me the wine auction houses ask between R1300 and R1800 for that specific cultivar

There were 6 bottles back in 1988 and we drank one in 2000 and 3 since then. It has an extremely refined taste

Are they saying that they are selling the smoked wine from the fire

Part and parcel of the unique South African terroir. Smoke seed pre-germination techniques are used for many fynbos species, including proteas. It's amazing that no-one before them have used the annual fires in the WC to distinguish our uniquely South African wines.

I guess that the high sugar content is key to its longevity. I also keep a bottle or two of Muscadel in the back of my storage, for the really cold days, and to serve as a desert wine for dinner guests. To be consumed strictly in small quantities only.
