Hennessey’s ‘VelociRaptor 500’ conversion boosts Ford’s fastest Ranger to 373kW

Hennessey likes to remind us that it has been making “fast cars faster” for over 30 years.

The Texan tuner’s latest in a long line of “faster” creations takes the newly launched Ford Ranger Raptor to the next level of performance.

The team made some “significant” changes to the Raptor’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine to raise outputs to a lofty 500 horsepower (373kW) and 746Nm. Consider that the ‘regular’ Ranger Raptor is good for 292kW and 583Nm.

By significant, they mean a higher-capacity intercooler with blow-off valve, as well as a new high-flow air induction system and tweaked engine management software.

As per the standard version, power goes to all four wheels through a 10-speed auto gearbox and an all-wheel drive system with locking front and rear differentials and low-range transmission.

nice bakkies... but are they reliable? its one thing to look good and have all that power.. but if 50% of the time is in the workshop.. nah... not worthy.. and most tests are on "brand new" vehicles... want a LONG term test, of starting mileage after major 90k service.

Ford commits “bad-ass” Ranger pickup to the 2024 Dakar Rally

US firm wants to do more motorsport, especially off-roading. Where better than Dakar?

Ford - undoubtedly as part of its new plan to sell you more trucks and SUVs instead of humble little Fiestas - has chosen to take on the Dakar Rally in 2024, and it’s sending a “bad-ass” version of its Ranger pickup to compete in the Rally Raid T1+ class.

Except it knows you don’t simply turn up and win the Dakar straight away, so it’s sending an old-gen Ranger-based racer on a “finish and learn” basis first, to lay the groundwork for a proper tilt in a Ranger Raptor in 2025.

The pickup will harness the power of Ford’s 3.5-litre EcoBoost engine, with testing and development work set to take place at Spain’s Baja Espana Aragon in July and Morocco’s Rally du Maroc in October.

Ford Performance’s programme will also rope in M-Sport (which competes in the WRC in a hybrid Puma) and rally raid specialists Neil Woolridge Motorsports to make sure the Ranger is up to mustard come the Dakar in January.

Yeah and they had 2 or 3 price increases since the next-gen launched.
Launch price was R 1 094 000.00 and price currently is R 1 184 000.00.
