The Ford Ranger (T6) Thread

Had a drive in a friends facelift Ranger 3.2 last week. Very nice actually. Just needs a rev counter. That would annoy me slightly.

No Rev counter? Auto or manual? Auto I might not care but manual, that's just weird/ cheap.

So the Ranger now has a button for burnouts? lmao on a bakkie? To warm up the tires before a drag race? Alright then...

And btw, so people don't know how to spin the wheels without a button anymore these days?

Auto, and as far as I could see you get a digital rev counter when in sports mode only, otherwise, nothing. Not sure if the manual is the same.

Wow - no rev counter? 1980 called and want's their entry level instrumentation spec back.

It actually does look really nice, just needs the rev counter.

Doesn't make sense guys.. on the right panel of the display, you have a digital rev counter, surely that is more than good enough.

"Display Mode" -> "keep switching the options" and walla... digital rv

This applies to auto. Wether in sports or not you get digital rev counter.

However by default when you push "sport" it switches display to show the digital rv

Wanted to ask. Your f/lift MY2017 3.2 XLT has Sync 3 but no Nav right....can it be retrofitted? If not I am guessing it is not a train smash as you use Google Maps via AA.

Yes, Sync 3 but no navigation. I have not investigated with my dealer about adding on the navigation because a forum member on 4x4community (he is from Fury Ford) said it would be very expensive. While it would be nice to have always on navigation, I don't have a need for it here in EL and whenever I have gone out of town, Google Maps connected via Sync 3 has worked flawlessly. I have a 50gb MTN sim in my phone so Maps data usage is a non issue.

It's impressive that they rolled out free navigation. It's a big feature and no doubt a defensive shot at the Navara and incoming Amarok's

Why does it have individual letters to display the gear?

Much better :

and comes with a rev counter.

Many vehicles display which slot the auto selector is in.

Mine is a manual, so does not have the lights showing gear, but has a very nice, perfectly accurate rev counter....

FORD SA ADDS BLINGED-UP FX4 MODEL TO RANGER LINE-UP

I'd rather get a Wildtrack as this Fx4 does not get the same toys (misses out on high beam assist, auto cruise control, lane departure, electric and heated seats)

Clearly recognising the sort of accessories that many South African owners have already applied to their own bakkies, Ford has added a new limited edition Ranger Fx4 model to its local line-up.

Ford SA says the Fx4 badge is “derived from the all-conquering Ford F-Series pick-ups in the United States”. The new variant is based on the 3,2-litre XLT double-cab 4×4 (worth 147 kW/470 N.m), and is available in either six-speed manual or automatic guise.

The manual model comes in at R593 900, while the auto costs R608 900 (each R15 000 more than the models on which they are based).

So, what do you score for the extra cash? Well, the Ranger Fx4 features black finishes for the front grille, foglamp bezels, side-mirror caps, roof rails, door handles and tailgate handles.

A set of “Panther Black” 17-inch alloys is also part of the package, with this dark hue repeated on the side-steps, rear bumper and tubular sports bar. The loadbed, meanwhile, is protected by a fitted bedliner, while obligatory Fx4 decals are applied to the sides of the vehicle and to the tailgate. Four colours are available (Frozen White, Moondust Silver, Sea Grey and Panther Black).

“This is an exciting special addition to the Ranger line-up that has its own distinct personality, and was designed to be unique in a cluttered market place,” said Tracey Delate, general manager for marketing at Ford SA.

“There’s a strong demand for accessorising and customising the standard Ranger amongst enthusiast customers, and the Ranger Fx4 fills that niche superbly, while maintaining the exceptional capabilities of the XLT model,” added Delate.

And, of course, the four-year/120 000 km warranty…

Ford Ranger Fx4 (2017): A Raptor Kit with a Warranty

You’ve probably seen hundreds of Ford Rangers adorned with special body kits. Well, Ranger enthusiasts, now there’s one that you can get that doesn’t void your vehicle's warranty. It’s called the Fx4.

The Fx4 Ranger is based on the double cab XLT derivative and features a few "pimp my ride" styling features that Ranger buyers have previously been adding to their vehicles through independent (to Ford or Ford dealers) suppliers. The Fx4 name comes from the Ford F-Series pickup in the USA.

Black finishes have been added to the radiator grille, fog lamp bezels, mirrors, roof rails and the door and tailgate handles.

The distinctive 17-inch wheels are finished in a "Black Panther" colour, which is carried through to the side steps, bumper and roll-over bar.

The Fx4 will be limited to just 4 colour choices: Frozen White, Moondust Silver, Sea Grey and Panther Black.

Further adding to its exclusivity is that you can only buy an Fx4 in 3.2-litre turbodiesel 4x4 guise.

The Fx4 does also come with Ford’s Sync3 tech that, has just been made available to certain Ranger and Everest models.

Unlike the Raptor kits you see out there, the Fx4 is sold with a 4yr/120 000 km warranty and a 5yr/100 000 km service plan.

The FX4 model is also available in Australia. It's not an SA special jobbie.

VIDEO: CAR magazine’s double-cab bakkie shootout!

No, your eyes don’t deceive you. We have indeed gathered representatives from all the major players in the leisure-oriented double-cab bakkie market in a bid to crown the best lifestyle pickup currently available in South Africa.

Every one of the contenders taking part in our big double-cab shootout boasts a turbodiesel engine, along with an automatic transmission and 4×4. So, which one is the best leisure-bakkie of the lot?

Well, we drove them on tar, we drove them on gravel … we even hooked up a caravan for a towing test. And then, of course, we put each of them through their paces round an off-road course.

Will the new Nissan Navara make an impact? And what about the dark-horse Mitsubishi Triton? Watch the video above for a taste of the action, and be sure to pick up a copy of our jam-packed May 2017 issue to read the full 16-page test…
