The Ford Ranger (T6) Thread

Yoh, I have a question.

My Ranger has one of those rear view cameras in the read view mirror... how, the actual... well, let me just ask... the mirror is so dark, I can't see squat.... is there some sort of setting, or is it just broke... i mean, it's supposed to dim when at night someone has their brights on, but hell, it's just permanently dim

regards,
dim ranger owner

Your mirror has the rear camera which displays as a square on the left when you engage reverse. Your mirror also has automatic dim. The auto dim has a sensor on the back of the mirror which senses when it is night time. If it detects bright light from a car behind you at night, it will auto dim.

Are you complaining about the camera image being dim or the reflection inside the mirror? Is the issue day and night or just day?

I am complaining about the mirror being dim inside the mirror. The issue is 24/7. I have no idea where the sensor is, in order to test it by closing it, or shining a bright light in it.

Is your rear cab glass or canopy glass tinted? Or could be that your mirror is stuck on dim mode. Do you still have warranty?

yeh, rear cab and canopy tinted, but when i look at people on the back seat, or myself in the mirror, it's quite dark...

seems like it's stuck on dim.

More SA-built Fords on way: R125-million Silverton upgrade

Ford has invested more than R125-million to upgrade the 3000-metre vehicle conveyor system at its Silverton factory in Pretoria.

The upgrade will increase production capacity for the locally-built Ford Ranger and Everest.

More capacity

The investment forms part of the automaker's expansion plans to increase the factory's capacity by 22% from 27 jobs-per-hour to 33 jobs-per-hour by January 2018.

The new conveyor system, means fewer delays in production and, says Ford SA, "an increase in the number of vehicles manufactured for the South African market, as well as for export to 148 markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa".

Ford SA boosts Ranger, Everest production capacity

Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa says it has invested more than R125-million to upgrade the 3 000-metre vehicle conveyor system at its Silverton plant, thus increasing production capacity for the Ranger (the best-selling vehicle in SA year-to-date) and Everest.

The move is part of the local arm’s manufacturing expansion plans to increase the Pretoria plant’s capacity by 22% from 27 jobs-per-hour to 33 jobs-per-hour by January 2018.

Ford says the new conveyor system “optimises the plant’s automated electro monorail system Webb conveyor between the body shop and paint shop”, thereby improving overall production efficiency by reducing stoppages.

In theory, this means fewer delays in production and an increase in the number of vehicles manufactured for the South African market, as well as for export to markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Ford says that an additional benefit of the new system is that the conveyor decouples the body shop from the paint shop, which allows one area to continue work should the other have a stoppage.

In addition, the new conveyor creates what Ford calls a “buffer zone” between the two areas, which allows for last-minute body-panel adjustments and repairs to be made before the vehicles enter the paint shop.

IS FORD WORKING ON A V6-POWERED RANGER RAPTOR?

It’s long been a rumour, and now new spy shots and information out of Australia suggest that Ford is indeed hard at work on a high-performance Ranger Raptor.

CarAdvice has published fresh images (view them here) of what appears to be a Ranger Raptor prototype – something the publication first spotted as long ago as 2015 – testing Down Under, reporting that the production version will likely hit the market in 2019, along with the rest of the next-generation range.

Interestingly, the bakkie CarAdvice spied was right-hand drive, with the publication pointing out that it employed a Watt’s linkage (pointing to a coil-sprung rear end?), increased ride height, discs at all four corners, aggressively flared wheel arches and off-road tyres.

So, what’s under the bonnet? Well, CarAdvice says that, according to its photographer, the Ranger “sounded very similar to an EcoBoost V6 F-150”, which suggests that the brand’s 3,5-litre EcoBoost six-pot may well be on the cards, presumably detuned slightly for the Ranger. Of course, the US automaker also has a 2,7-litre EcoBoost V6 in its stable.

Currently, if a buyer in this segment is looking for a V6-powered double-cab, the only option is the range-topping version of the recently facelifted Volkswagen Amarok (although the upcoming Mercedes-Benz X-Class is also expected to be offered with a six-cylinder mill, albeit without tuning from AMG).
