The Ford Ranger (T6) Thread

I'm looking for a fibreglass canopy for my T6 Double Cab. Anyone here have any experience with AndyCab, Beekman or CarryBoy?
Had the new AndyCab Platinum X fitted on my Ranger yesterday. Great looking canopy, no complaints.

Ford Ranger bakkie scoops ‘International Pick-up Award’ for 2020

The Ford Ranger has won the International Pick-up Award 2020, beating Mitsubishi’s Triton (also known as the L200 in some markets) into second place.

The Blue Oval brand’s bakkie – which is, of course, built right here in South Africa – won the biennial title, with the Triton grabbing a close second place and the Toyota Hilux coming in third.

A group of 18 jurors said the Ranger was triumphant thanks to its “new cleaner and greener drivetrain” as well as “a number of technical and safety advancements”.

Jarlath Sweeney, chairperson for the International Van of the Year jury, revealed that just six points separated the top two contenders.

“The Ford Ranger scored 78 points to the 72 gained by the Mitsubishi L200 [Triton], with the Toyota Hilux coming in third,” Sweeney said.

The plastic and screws on these bolt ons just look so cheap and nasty. Like an old style black rubbish bin and cheap eureka fasteners that someone got at builders. Looks more fitting on one of those little battery cars for kids to ride in.

The LED bars always look some china mall special. It is just all so tacky.

Edit: Saw another one today with the drum brake housings painted orange (and painted badly). "Look at my ceramic high performance 8 piston brakes obsolete braking system from 1902. "

Ford Ranger Takes International Pick-Up Award Victory

Your 2020 International Pick-up Award winner is the Ford Ranger!

After 3 days of solid testing in Sweden, the eventual winner in this bakkie competition was announced as the Ford Ranger. It went up against the Mitsubishi L200 (Trition), updated Nissan Navara, Renault Alaskan and Toyota Hilux.

It was not a clear-cut victory as the difference between first and second place was just 6 points, with the Triton right behind the Ranger. “Indeed it was, with just six points separating the top two contenders in the final tally. The Ford Ranger scored 78 points to the 72 gained by the Mitsubishi L200, with the Toyota Hilux coming in third,” said Jarlath Sweeney, Chairman, International Van of the Year Jury. “Jury members adjudged the Ranger to be the best all-rounder and noted that it’s a best seller too, as the previous version together with this revised model dominate the European marketplace with almost 30% share of the IPUA 1-tonne segment. So the public recognize its merits also! Marks were allocated on each vehicle based on powertrain efficiencies, load volume and capability, driver and passenger comfort and safety aspects, as well as low total cost of operation from a business point of view,” added Jarlath

Ford Ranger bakkie handed (super-expensive!) carbon-fibre body kit

A company in the United Kingdom has revealed a comprehensive carbon-fibre body kit for the Ford Ranger, handing the Blue Oval bakkie an aggressive new look.

Motion R says the package includes a new front bumper (with integrated daytime running lights), front wings, quarter panels and rear bumper (framing the stainless-steel exhaust system’s tailpipes), all fashioned from carbon-fibre. There’s also set of 20-inch OR1 concave alloy wheels.

Raptor-lite? Ford is reportedly planning new Ranger ‘FX4 Max’ bakkie

A fresh report out of Australia claims Ford is preparing a new “FX4 Max” off-roading variant for its Ranger line-up.

According to GoAuto.com, the company has filed to trademark the “FX4 Max” name in Australia, with the newcomer likely to slot in below the full-fat Raptor but above the Wildtrak.

The publication claims the rumoured new derivative will feature “a variety of modifications for more extreme off-roading” along with a smattering of styling updates (rather than just the latter, as was the case with the FX4 package offered in South Africa).

This fully loaded Ranger is a great pre-owned buy

Verdict:

In one of the most hotly contested segments in South Africa, the Ford Ranger Wildtrak remains one of the best double-cab 4x4s on offer. Its aggressive appearance, attractive interior, gutsy engine and impressive list of luxury features means it remains a top choice in this sector of the market.
