The Ford Ranger (T6) Thread

Scumbags, if I catch one of these buffoons I'm either going to the morgue, or to jail. This country is way too soft on criminals.
Agreed, no mercy. This is DiY South Africa, if we all collectively increase both the risk and cost of crime to the perpetrator (which is the government's primary job), there will be far less of it.

Ford debuts new Ranger overlanding kit at SEMA

Ford has revealed a new overlanding package for the Ranger, debuting the extensive ARB-sourced off-roading kit at SEMA 2023 in the United States…

Keen to take your Ford Ranger on an overlanding adventure? Well, the Blue Oval brand has previewed a new off-road package for the double-cab bakkie at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas.

The kit was conceived by the Ford Performance division and is billed as a “first taste of what’s to come” for buyers in North America, though the accessories come from Australian off-roading experts, ARB.

“Ford customers love to personalise the performance and appearance of their vehicles, especially Mustang, Bronco and Ranger,” said Mark Wilson, Ford North America Vehicle Personalisation manager. “The Ford Performance parts packages we’re debuting combine the latest design trends with aftermarket accessories engineered to work with these vehicles out of the box.”

Known as the Ford Performance Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) offering, the package is described as a “turn-key solution” to transform the Ranger into an “even more highly capable off-roading vehicle”.

I just replied to that tweet. I'll repost here:

We have a fleet of 7 previous gen 2.2 base Rangers. When the time comes to replace, as things stand currently, we will need to switch brands. The current one's cost us between R220k and R350k over the years all bought in a staggered manner as we replaced the previous workhorses - all bought new. Now Ford wants half a bar for their entry level bakkie and I must trust staff with that glass touch screen display and superior interior which I know they are going to destroy no matter how many times I threaten them. Not going to happen.

Ford Ranger PHEV will be built in South Africa!

UPDATE: Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa confirmed on 8 November 2023 that production of the Ranger PHEV will indeed kick off at its Silverton plant in 2024! Read on for the full, original story from the opening week of October…

Ford invests R5.2 billion to build Ranger Plug-in Hybrid in South Africa

The new Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid, revealed back in September, will be built right here in South Africa.

This follows a R5.2 billion investment to produce the new model at its Silverton plant in Gauteng, as announced at Ford South Africa’s 100 Year Anniversary celebration held at the facility on Tuesday.

The investment also includes the establishment of a new battery pack assembly plant in Silverton, while Ford’s Chassis Plant will be upgraded to accommodate the unique configuration of this model.

Production is expected to commence in late 2022, with the hybrid model exported not only to Europe as per the regular Ranger models, but also to new export markets such as Australia and New Zealand.

The Ford Ranger PHEV’s hybrid system pairs a 2.3-litre EcoBoost turbopetrol engine with an electric motor and battery, the latter allowing for a range of more than 45km on electric power alone, according to Ford.

Ford Ranger Tremor and Platinum coming to South Africa, and they could not be more different

Ford Ranger buyers are already spoiled for choice, but soon they’ll have even more options in the double cab space.

Ford has announced that it will be launching the Ranger Tremor and Platinum models in South Africa during the first half of 2024, and the two family members are worlds apart.

Think of the Platinum as that rich relative who likes the finer things in life, often flashing a shiny Rolex and designer blazer. The Tremor is that rugged, down-to-earth uncle who doesn’t care for flashy possessions and isn’t afraid of getting dirty. We’ll start with that one.
