Um?
Ok, on the IE6 issue. Don't support it. There is no feasibly implementable way of supporting IE6 and being forward compliant. IE6 does not exist in any practical world.
Neither does any version of any other browser further than one, *perhaps* two versions back. If you accomodate IE6 or any such stupidity, you are not worth your salt as a web developer. If your client insists, tell him to use MS Word, and "Save as web page." Move on.
Sorry. If you are browsing webpages, it means you are connected to the internet, and you can upgrade. If your computer is too "small", sorry to hear it. Dikwiel bicycles are not allowed on the N1 either. And nobody is insisting on that...
Also, as an aside, If you do not run javascript, just plain f-off.
Now, for the rest of these inane comments. Big brother? PUH-LEASE. You watch way too many movies. Enters Sandra Bullock.
As an example, I hate Google analytics as much as the next guy, but simply because it is stupidly implemented and slows down web page load times. Not because of the whole "OMG they are tracking my usage patterns" or "Big Brother" style bs-mongering. Those are simply Delusions of Grandeur.
Nobody is watching you from the sky. Or from Google, in any way that is of any import to you or your client. Nobody cares that much about you as an individual. There are no men in white lab coats planning to abduct you. Really. Your bits are too small.
OK, now:
Say after me. If it is ON or CONNECTED TO the internet in any concievable way, regard it as: open, free, visible, un-private, vulnerable, public. Someone can get to it. Guaranteed. You are just not good enough to hide it. Not if you have the time to spend it takes to read this.
The ONLY thing that stops it, is simply the fact that NOBODY CARES.
Unless you are trying to hide kiddie porn. I hope they catch you and cut off your.. oh, I forgot. Pedos don't have any.
It is highly unlikely that anyone cares what you have on your PC. If you leave something so valuable, that someone would actually care enough to try and take it, a) you are just plain stupid, b) The universe dictates that you deserve to have it taken from you. And, btw, there *are* pills for stupidity. They are lead-based. Take one and call nobody tomorrow.
If you have it on your PC, and your PC is connected to the internet, it means that it is not important to you. If you leave your diamond ring in the middle of the toy aisle in shoprite, it's not important to you.
If it is important, private or valuable do not leave it on a device connected to the net. Simple. If you have to transmit it via the net, and it is truly private, encode it, then archive it, then password it, and then do it all again. Twice. Then send it and have it recieved and removed. That is security, but still not 100%.
And if you are truly afraid of getting your system hacked, and it is that essential, have a concurrent backup. On a cron. Whenever. Or always.
So stop faffing about getting hacked. It's only a problem if you are too lazy.
And while you are reformatting your hacked machines, I'll be making a nice fat packet out of my next geolocation based app.
