The gantry lane change

Well, yes and no.

The cameras don't take pictures of vehicles - they take pictures of whatever has passed their sensors. But there is another sensor that matches entry and exit. It's this sensor that determines whether it will store the photos or not. A plastic packet blowing in the wind could set off the cameras and they don't want a whole load of those pics.

Now, that sounds like BS. Because:

Entry cameras capture vehicle plate
-> vehicle reg determined and stored
--> exit camera captures vehicle plate
---> vehicle reg determined and matched to currently stored vehicles in "entered" state
----> record and bill the ****er

That is if they even do matching. You are also assuming that they would build functionality like that because the simpler solution will accept it the vehicle from any entry lane to any exit lane. I can't think why they would do this since they are already determining number plates and KNOW it is not a bird.

But then anything is possible.

Do yourself a favour and go and look at a gantry. You will see that there is a sensor in addition to the cameras.

Also, do not think that the system is a simple take a picture send a bill system. It keeps track of the passages made. How many vehicles in and how many out and then reconciles that with how many photosets captured. Not every photoset has legible no plates, or plates at all.

Actually that does make sense and in my view is probably why you get three pictures of the same gantry, entry to gantry, mid gantry and exit gantry and so it is verifying that the full set is a match to that particular vehicle.


So what happens if those sensors are damaged hmmmm.

The one picture - the side one - shows the environment. It proves that it was a particular gantry.

I do not think it is a simple take a picture and bill system. What I mean is that I doubt they'll discard two valid photos just because they are two lanes apart.

If you could get it right - change over 2 lanes - they will. The system doesn't work with a person checking each and every photo. The software is supposed to check the valid passages and people look at the ones that are a problem. With the volume of photosets it becomes impractical to check every set with a human. And depending on the number of false passages they get it might also cost too much to have a human check things - better to let the tech sort it.

I really think we are missing each other. BUT time is too precious to waste it over arguing about eTolls :p
 
Why hasn't anybody created a navigation tool to assist in avoiding the gantrys?
