Responses are flooding in from Fin24 users expressing their anger and frustration with the controversial new e-toll system in Gauteng.
A Fin24 user bought prepaid e-toll, but the amount was not reflected on his account. Now he is battling to get the money back. He writes:
I am a registered e-toll account holder.
At the beginning of December 2013 I topped up my prepaid account with R450 using a credit card as payment on their website.
This money was taken from my credit card, but never reflected as a credit on my e-toll account.
I then spent a day of being pushed from pillar to post, speaking to one person then another. I was told to wait a day.
By the second day there was still nothing showing and I needed to get around that day, so I tried loading another R450. This time it did reflect on my e-toll account.
I then received an e-mail stating that the R450 had now been reflected on my account.
I then began to try and explain that it was in fact the second purchase of R450 that went through and that they still owe me another R450.
To date I have received nothing from them and it appears I won't get my money back. Absa bank said they were unable to reverse the transaction.
(BTW: Fascinating how lacklustre e-toll branch staff are about data-security - the staff did not even bother cross-checking my details/ID and just showed me all the details of the other person)
He's part of Houses "social media team" to do "online reputation management".
Seriously, don't waste your time on that troll.
The truth has already been published in a hundred different places for him.
Let him go and educate himself.

Oh I have absolutely no illusions of "corrected" figures being forthcoming. My numbers are solid, of that I'm sure...
i have a huge problem in that the company for whom i work employs 4 people who drive company cars.
the MD is insisting on getting an e-tag for each of them and there's nothing the staff can do about it :-(
this sort of thing could be the beginning of the end for those of us who are sticking together against e-tolls.
Excuse my ignorance if this has been addressed previously.
Please help me with a not-so-hypothetical scenario:
If you have to travel on the GP highways on a daily basis (for work or whatever other reason) and you have no alternative route to take (or the alternative route adds an hour or 2 to your travel time, or is too dangerous to take, or whatever other reason);
Do you keep taking the tolled highways, defy the "system" and just keep racking up a bill for your travels? Can you afford to run up a bill of a few thousand (keeping in mind that if you're not registered the R450 cap doesn't apply to you) and decide to tackle the payment problem when it is addressed eventually (via invoicing, legal procedure, prosecution, or whatever);
OR:
Do you buckle under the pressure and get tagged, know that you'll only pay max R450 a month, bend over and take it up the tailpipe from SATANRAL?
