Now here is the link for checking unregistered users fees: https://www.sanral.co.za/e-toll/portal/PayTollFeesUnregisteredUsers.aspx

(Please note: their system is so crap, that the 1st time you click the link it will not work and ask you to register. Click it once more and you don't have to register. Note to SANRAL: Your system was not hacked, it's just very poor coding and session management on your part).

Is typing in someone else's number plate hacking?

As a small vat-registered business you're entitled to reclaim the VAT you pay on these transactions. You're not allowed to do that without supporting documentation - a VAT invoice.

They did say they'd send monthly invoices.

We'll see at next year's elections just how happy everyone is to pay an extra R450pm for no additional benefit.

The early e-tag adopters had nice highways for a few days so they were gloating about how they would pay R450pm with a smile for open freeways. But soon those freeways won't be open, they'll be just as busy as always and they'll still be paying R450pm and then +30% annually.

Oh you ain't seen nothing yet... tun tun... ooohhh baby you just ain't seen nothing yet!!!

Nope I bet you next years elections will be .. boring. ANC will get their required 65% (Or close to that) - DA will gain a little.. the others will pale in comparison.

Its the same bull**** story over and over again for the last two decades now. People get up in arms over something the government did / did not do. The moan, bitch and have a cry in the corner. Come election time - ANC gets the vote.. again and again. Why?
Because people are too ****ing stupid to realise just how badly the government are screwing them. Stuff free t-shirts, ANC - rather give your people a free tub of lube...

I hope I am wrong and I hope SANRAL and the ANC soon see the repercussions of their actions or lack thereof.

Yes the roads are quite now and the idiots are, as you say "happy to pay 450p/m" for a open road. However come the second week of january and it will be gridlock again. What will typical South Africans do? - you guessed it... bitch and moan and throw their toys out the cot. That it. Nothing else. Come elections... they will go the same as the 2009 elections. And the pervious elections before that and so on.

You see, eTolls don't effect those outside the province. (Yet) they don't effect those without cars. Those who take taxis (They're exempt), those who stay in rural areas and their main road is some dirt with no tolling. These people - the "majority" of the ANC votes are unaffected about the tolls and couldn't care less about it. So, that is points to the ANC, right there.

Then we come to the whole Nkandla saga. The president spends 200 odd million rand of our money on his own house while there are people suffering from poverty, lack of education, decent hospitals, etc, etc - he does this...

What do South Africans do.. bitch and moan.. no repercussions for Mr. Shower head. Come elections.. ANC get the vote.

Sorry for the small (off topic rant) but this place makes me sick and the people who buy tags make me sick. You're accepting what the government are doing and condone it. Hell, they should tell you next to just jump off a cliff... guess what? you will bitch and moan and then just do what they say anyway.

Any indication of what sort of delay one can expect between the eToll system and transactions reflecting on this site?

They did say they'd send monthly invoices.

Will they send those out to all registered users as well? Even people who prepay/get tagged/register/bend over?

Seems to be realtime - one of my staff went through it about an hour ago and it shows. Wonder if SANRAL now jumps on the ECT bandwagon for people "hacking" the system and not entering their own license plate. It is puzzling that a multi-billion toll system has such a furball of IT-crap consisting of PHP, Windows, ASP muddled up together. Not even the simplest financial calculation (as displaying VAT and working out totals) functions properly.

You can be certain that the system will fall properly apart within weeks due to DDoS and injection attacks.

Quick question - if you are unregistered, would you also be capped at R450? Or is that only for registered users? 2 days driving I am allready at R150 :(.

Only if you get a tag. Oh and give SANRAL full access to your bank account.

Here is another idea

Generate a nice bill with SANRAL. Let SANRAL blacklist you. Wait for the credit amnesty to get implemented. High risk though. Use the govt against the govt.

Disclaimer. This is not recommended at all, but it would be a great loophole if it worked.

Are you even slightly surprised ?

Not in the slightest... but after the CoJ debacle I would have assumed they would have at least given this kind of crap a cursory check.

Surely a tester (even a junior wet behind the ears 2 days out of school tester) would have picked this up.

SANRAL cannot blacklist you, they are not a credit provider, they are not registered with the NCR, they did not do an affordability study on you if you registered for etolling.

Nope, SANRAL Act explicitly exempts from the NCA.

Not paying is also in contravention of the SANRAL Act - R1000 fine and criminal record.

So on this site, how would one know if your fees are calculated wrongly?
