Wonder how the system tolls you. For what you have used or for what you are going to use?

Cant use the gantries to determine that. Get on the R21 south at Waterkloof AFB to OR Tambo you are tolled immediately where the e-toll road start. Leave the e-toll roads area at N1 north just after Lynnwood road, you have a gantry...

Probably got their bread buttered on both sides.

Driving north on the R21 to Pta from the airport, I passed 2 gantries with no exit between them. Does this mean road-users will be billed twice for using that section of the highway???

I've heard that the cameras battle with the old acrylic plates. Any truth to this?

Drove that road this weekend. Gantry just before Olifantsfontein exit (and just before that there are two exits). Then somewhere in between that there is a gantry, then on just after Nelmapius Road... so unsure which part you are talking about.

Also unsure on what you mean billed twice? You pay a fixed fee as soon as you go under a gantry, whether you joined the highway 8km back or 1km back. Badly designed system that doesn't measure your actual use like it should.

I was stopped near Nasrec by a Metro routine check. Just the usual to see if everything was in order with the car, licence, etc.
I actually asked the very friendly officer how many Etags he's noticed so far.
He laughed - 'What Etags?'

that's incredible.. usually they want to give you a fine for not having one.
Ahhh yes... the traditional Nasrec bribe-block... its there every year. Used to dodge it a lot.

It was raining heavily on Friday night, so perhaps I missed the exit, seemed like I'd passed under 2 gantries before I passed an exit.

Heading north on the R21, all gantries have at least one exit between them.

In the interest of science I took the alternative to the R21 to Pta on Saturday. It's a horrible little road that at least doubles travel time (in what should be a rather quiet time of year). Driving that road at night (or god-forbid when it's raining) borders on suicide.

My wife detests stickers on cars... however that changed this morning... she drove into work with it firmly affixed on the back of the car.

I used the highway this morning. Conservatively counting oncoming traffic about one in 10 cars had a tag.

all estimates at this stage show between 10 and 30% compliance for e-tags

We now have to hope that a sufficient number will refuse to pay and want their day in court - system will collapse

I wonder what is going to happen next month. Will be very interesting!
