What would be the point of this? It is not illegal to not have a tag, and any outstanding amount is not a "fine" as such, so what exactly could they do to you in an E-toll roadblock apart from intimidate you?
 
it could also be to weed out duplicate plates.... or verify enatis data

How would that work exactly? People don't exactly drive around with proof of address.

Also, I've actually tried for the last 5 years to update my postal address and they simply don't input the change. Even after repeatedly asking the operator at the licensing centre if my address has now been updated, they still sent my collection notice to the wrong address.

they could compare what you state to their system and if there is a discrepancy they could task you to go and update it or fine you

Please read my post again, I've been trying to do that for the last 5 years. Perhaps they should start fixing the problem at the source.

I read and understood your post, but surely you are aware that they have now targeted the updating and fixing of enatis and roadblocks could be one way

I don't see how. Legally, in the absence of proof of residence they can only advise you to update your details, but as pointed out, they never seem to actually update the record when you do try.

Make you pay outstanding e-toll fees, pretty much the same setup as outstanding fines! If you won't/can't pay they take you to the magistrate.

In any case I am pretty damn good at dodging roadblocks.

AFAIK they can only put you in front of a magistrate if a summons has been issued

I haven't heard of a single summons being issued for e-tolls debt.

Well, it should have happened already. 7 days after transit the toll moves to the violations processing centre. There you have 60 days to pay after which it is supposed to go to either AARTO or CPA. They say they can't do AARTO because AARTO isn't ready. Lol.

When it goes to CPA they have to hand over all evidence. Photos. Proof that they tried to contact you. Etc etc. It is then up to the prosecutors to issue summons and get you to court. That could take up to 2 years just because the courts are busy.

Obviously not, but it shows just how dysfunctional the entire system is. It's been months since I passed a gantry and they haven't been able to send a single bill to me. My parents are living on their pension and have actually paid their debt - they simply can't afford to otherwise, and they are still receiving the bill that they've settled every few weeks. How can they start prosecuting if they can't even ensure that a bill has been delivered or that an account has been settled - never mind a summons?
 
So has anyone gone to court yet?
Also I am sure the DA have a court challenge this month for extolls, not so?
