@Vrotappel
Did not read the linked article, but more responding more to the theme of the responses to your article. Yes it is stupid to blame the white, no it is not. So where do I stand: See my response below:
Yes, the article is stupid. Everyone makes their own choices, these choice affects our sleep:
  • Drugs: i.e. caffeine
  • Type of Bed: Certain mattresses are uncomfortable
  • Activities prior to bed: what you do immediately before going to sleep will affect your quality of sleep. i.e. watching/browsing on phones/pc monitors etc. will affect you.
  • The time you turn in. You are responsible for your own sleeptime.
  • I.e. All of the above- you are responsible for as an adult.
No, it is not stupid, but only as it relates to South Africa. And this is only because I personally experienced it. I lived in townships for quite a number of years. To get too work, university etc. required us to stand up really early, because (this will be the only time I use this excuse):

  1. Apartheid Planning - i.e. where non-whites lived vs where we worked etc.
  2. Bad Public Transport - I am old enough to know - trains were always k@k, but it worked, however, it was really nice on the lines which predominately serviced whites (so there will be a difference of opinion depending on what you experienced). There is a reason why the mini-bus taxi industry flourished in South Africa.
  3. Carte Blanche years ago did a segment on how early people stood up to get to work. It was in Mitchells Plain, and the lady (short black hair) interviewed the Guardtjie, on why she only sees women in the taxis so early in the morning, he replied that the men are too lazy to work. Off topic: not to lazy, already, we were seeing the breakdown of families and the rise of women led households.
  4. I read an open letter to Cape Times when it was still independent, about the experience of a black man going to work and how early he has to stand up so that he can be at work on time.
So yes it is not stupid, but, only as it relates to South Africa and the experience of people of colour because of the way our cities and town were segregated and the lack of good public transport.

You say you did not read it then proceed to call it stupid. maybe read it.

  • Haha
Reactions: rh1
I gave two response
Yes it is stupid, and backed it up why and No it is not stupid and backed it why.

You responses to why it is stupid has nothing to do with the article, You are not addressing the factors mentioned in the article.

The irony is the factors you mention as SA only are more relevant.

How old are you? Do you have a reading problem?
"Did not read the linked article, but more responding more to the theme of the responses to your article."

Clearly states what I am responding to. Are you just trolling, what are you adding to the debate.

What are you adding to the debate by not debating the actual article this is not off topic or the Philosophical Debates section the article is important to the debate.

@Chunk20 I will explain it to you how I would explain it to a child:

1. The responses to the article from vrotappel were mainly that it was a joke. Madness is the term you use.
2. I have a different view. I can see why (Yes, it is stupid). I even gave reasons as to why it could be seen as stupid.
3. I can also see why there is merit. i.e. Not it is not stupid, I gave reasons as to why.

Hope this helps you understand, if not, maybe some other people on the forum can help you understand.
