With all the HDD's Clicking, Dying HDD's, Losing Data, Popping circuitry I decided to Start this thread.

I Have found an awesome utility to Fix Wrong Size reporting in XP!

If your HDD reports 33MB in the BIOS, or 7.87GB in Disk Management but you have like a 500GB or bigger and can't get it to work - Use "HDD Capacity Restore" - Amazing Utility that restores your HDD Size if Windows or BIOS reports it wrong, Free, and 400kb!

Click here to download HDD Capacity Restore - Excellent Util!;)

What's everyone else up to with their HDD's lately? I'm trying to do a Circuitboard Transplant but am still having difficulties...

keeper, i have replaced around 40 circuit boards in the last few years, what kind of trouble could you be having?
my advice: model number must be the same, all the way down to the last digit.
firmware versions have to be the same too.
apart from that, smooth sailing.

They are both Same Model Numbers, Same Firmware - I advertised in my sig I needed THIS HDD and got a seller yesterday.

His HDD Works but when I plug the board in mine it just doesn't detect in the BIOS..and I need that data back so bad LOL

Only difference I see is the S/N (Duh), and the Date Code (07167 and 07287)

what do you think could be the problem - did I maybe Damage the Platters (cause I "accidentally" touched a chip to something metal WHILE ON and i heard it pop and smelt burnt plastic...)

you could have damaged the motor on your drive. does it spin up when you apply power? apart from that, a board swopout should have cured it.

Hmm...I can't remember but will check later tonite, and report back. (I was just so bumbed, so all I remember is it wasn't working...)

I hope we can use this thread to help each other with HDD problems - It seems a lot of people were having huge problems a while ago... (some guy actually also popped his HDD just like I did, AFTER I said "Do not move your hdd when ON"...and he DID post in the thread before it happend, so why he didn't listen, I don't know...)
