Wow the Linux market has really EXPLODED.

How big are the distro's now?

this is quite interesting to see.

estimated at downloading 1Gig and hour on a 4meg line, and starting at about 10PM and ending at about 8AM, one would do about 300Gigs a month.

take into account that Mweb shapes downloads from torrents and file hosts such as Hotfile, Megaupload and Rapidshare; let's say they shape to half speed, that would lessen the 300Gigs already. (talking about using that time frame)

and yet here you get peeps that seem to do the 300Gigs with no hassles. what tricks of the trade do you guys have?

kosmic, I'm with you on this one.

I used more or less the same amount of cap per month on my friend's 4Mbps connection that I'm now using on my 384kbps connection.
If I had a faster connection, then my Internet usage would've been more due to watching more streaming videos on YouTube, because its just a big waste of time to wait for videos on YouTube with a 384kbps connection.

Luckily for me I can do the majority of my Ubuntu updates via a 20Mbps wireless link to the University

Even in 720p, @1.5GB per episode or 4.5GB a movie, I am still getting more that I can watch in a month. Throw in a little gaming (~8GB) which is good value for GB/hours entertainment, and I'm doing just fine on my Openweb Gold 384k Uncapped.

As for getting stuff for friends, I have considered sharing a connection and going round once a week with the external, but it's too much effort... Uncapped is awesome

Sweet!! my usualy http umm... "Linux Distro" place is giving me constant 320kB/s!!!! instead of my usual Crappy 57kB/s!!
at this rate i see 400GB comming

Maybe change your source, I've stopped using torrents because they're usually so much slower. Today I'm getting almost full speed at 5pm for some reason, on file hosting sites.

I can't even hit 100GB a month with my mweb 4meg account.I havn't had download speeds above 100kb/s.

On my 4 Meg account I will hit 100 Gig this weekend. but then I only download over the weekend.

I normally get around 35 Gig a weekend using Astraweb.

I don't torrent. I only use file hosts like RS, MU and HF.

Hotfile gets shaped sometimes, but fileserver, filesonic, oron and the others always gives you at least 1mbit/s per file so with 4 of those at a time you can do some pretty heavy downloads.

You really think MWEB doesn't do traffic statistics on their own network? I am pretty sure they know how much of their traffic is going to various sites.

Not to mention you can Google all of this. Plus, bypassing the shaping is right there too. If you think Mweb/ISPs can't Google or know what's plotting, then you're a different kind of stupid.
