The hiking thread!

Too tough? Boring? Baboons? What spoilt the walk?
Went with silly people who left too late (8am) on a hot summers day...nearly died of heat.
I also don't enjoy scrambling over rocks....my Nikes got fkkd up

She is a smoker in her 50s
There arent baboons on that part of Table Mountain
Listen *******, I might smoke but I'll take you on on a hike one day
We WON'T go with the O...he gets lost on mountains...a 3 hour hike took him 12 on Sunday....pity he found his way down....oh, apparently he was carried down the last couple hundred metres

Deal
I will make pancakes

Are you going to make the batter before you leave and keep it in a bottle, or are you going to mix it on the hike?

Interested to see how you Capies do things..
I do both
For daily hikes I go with pre mixed batter in a bottle

On multi day hikes I carry my powdered premix that just needs 1 egg and water and I use my Cordless USB Whisk to make the fresh batter.
Quick n Easy

This is the easy one, it doesnt require you to carry milk with you

I get about 15 to 20 pancakes from each packet

I bought a pair of Salomon's X4 Ultra's but my feet hurt after the hike...
Which is strange, the other hikes were fine, and these shoes are still brand new.
Think I need to buy an inner sole.

I was kind of being sarcastic.. But you make them on route, impressive.

Does the pancake premix not taste meh without milk, I use it at home, and always use milk?

Do you carry a largish pan, oil, spatula and egg?

Is that the mid-boot or trail running shoe?

I am going to try and revive this stale thread, here goes...

We are doing Fanie Botha month end, the 2 day (23km/14km) route. Anyone else do it, how was it, was there water along the route? (I guess since there are many options on this hike, I am asking water availability in general)

I have done the Drakensberg Northern Traverse and Otter, so this one has been on the list for some time, looking forward to it.

People in my hiking group who have done it a year or so ago complained that the huts were in a bad state. Not sure if that was just post lock down issues that have been fixed or not.

Haha, it tastes perfect, Maybe they have milk powder in the flour mix, I am not sure, But it tastes same as homemade pancakes, everyone loves them

On day hikes I carry the large stuff yes, but on multi dayu I have a small frying pan and tiny kiddies spatula

Where possible I try not to stay in a hut.
I have a lightweight tent that has no poles, it uses your 2 trekking poles instead.
I love it, nice and tiny and light
I prefer sleeping in peace outside, not with 10 snorers in a confined space
