The hiking thread!

Any must do hikes cape side?

Will be there around first April (braces for prime air ticket prices)

I have done Mont Rochelle, Paarlberg and Jonkers Hoek.

Dont mind travelling and we usually book around where we hiking.

I would prefer day trips capped at an absolute max of 16km

I am sure there are others who have more personal advice, while you wait for responses have a look at https://www.alltrails.com/south-africa/western-cape?search=true

Am still fairly new to the Western Cape hiking scene myself, following this with interest.

Thanks again for sharing these, one of the Bergriver trails we wanted to do was behind a locked gated called the conservancy to ask why it was locked they said someone locked it the previous day and it shouldnt be locked so we rather headed back to Mont Rochelle to do Du Toitskloof via Uitkyk did Perdekop via Uitkyk last time.

Some pics - you guys Cape side live in such a beautiful part of the country, it never fails to impress!

Took a 10km hike with my son this past Saturday at Van Gaalen Cheeses farm in Harties. He was on his MTB while I was walking behind him. Not sure why I do not do this often because I used to walk Kms back home in Limpopo growing up. I still walk a lot. I need to get myself some hiking shoes.

There are a few hiking groups in WC that go out regularly, across to the better spots on like a roster basis.. Met them whilst doing the Newlands forest a year back.

I have gotten into hiking about 2 years ago, have done Giba gorge and Krantzkloof Nature reserve a few times. Dont know why i have done this sooner.

If you dont need massive support trail running shoes work like a dream especially when flying and needing the space.

I used https://www.runstore.co.za/pages/altra-lone-peak-9 for many happy hiking KMS!

anyone done the Tugela falls hike in the Drakensburg? I am doing that in 3 weeks, spending a night at the top of the mountain. looking forward to it. Hoping for good weather.

These have been fantastic.

Did the fish twice, the otter and several day hikes in various terrain across SA. I realise they are dear, but they’ve done many kilos with no issue. Gore-Tex is now non negotiable. I’ll buy another pair after I sort out my running shoe rotation.

we have. Couple years back, it was awesome. The chain ladders are wilding. How’s the safety there, some one told me there is some petty crime.

I haven't read about crime recently, I am doing it through a company called Soul Adventures, i think there are around 12 of us going, should be ok in a group.

You’ll be fine in a group. Enjoy it, it’s an awesome trek.
