The Hip Hop Thread

I like Old school Rap/hiphop late 80's, 90's to 2000, anything after that is garbage pop. Good today, forgotten tomorrow, but so is all the music today.

J Cole? Kendrick? Kanye?

All three only blew up after 2000, but yes I do agree mos rap now is ****. You have to search for artists worth listening to.

Definitely - what seems to bubble to the top is the crap so you actually have to work hard and look for the gems because MSM wont play them

Recently found Locksmith and been listening to his tracks non stop.

Will lookout for him EDIT: heard the olive branch intro a couple of weeks ago - his album wasnt out yet i think.

Have been listening to AllttA myself - interesting music. Not hardcore by any stretch but its great mellow rap. Discovered him through MKBHD who uses some of his tracks in his Youtube Tech review videos

Takeoff killed this man. Such chilled vibes. We need to see him on more hooks instead of just Quavo.

Childish Gambino - This Is America

Song is a banger, video is very imaginative. What's interesting for me is if people who only listen and don't watch the vid, get the satirical elements of his performance (the faces, the "bojangling", stuff like that).

edit: I restarted after the first fade-to-black :o, the final verse has a pretty straightforward message.

Shameless rip, but from what I've been reading it highlights real issues.

Power and influence of the church. Sex in the church (''Pastor puts his hand on the breast of his member, He's pulling the demon out''). Rogue police unit (SARS) harassing the public. Violence attributed to the Fulani while carefully alluding to Boko Haram. Drug abuse.

Not sure I'm crazy about this song - Beyonce doing triplet flows and autotune. I prefer Lemonade Beyonce.
